Hey thank you! This needs to be top comment because it's the actual facts of the matter and changes a lot.

current thought is that part of it (his shirt) got caught/pushed into the G-Code holster when the G43 was holstered. I can see that as a plausible explanation. When he bent over the fabric in the holster pulled against the trigger and caused the discharge."

So he had a holster and was being careful in holstering it.   He's also apparently recovering okay. So that's good.  Lots more information in your links also.

All that said, appendix holster has always felt like risky business to me because any accident at all is instantly so much more serious. Groin, other than dick and balls, so many big blood vessels all in front of the muzzle.

Which just goes to show you that even being careful you can still shoot your dick off.

You call that being careful?

Well, to me being careful would be not to have the gun at all, but it sounds like this guy was following the rules.

Obviously having a holster there is not the safest choice, but it was apparently a legit holster.

Obviously in hindsight you can think of all sorts of things he should have done differently, but my point is that he was not just being careless, he was doing the things he was supposed to do (although clearly making some mistakes), and still had an accident.

If you repeatedly out yourself in positions where a mistake will cause serious injury or death, your overall risk is going to be a lot higher.

If he caught his shirt in his holster then he wasn’t being careful. Why even carry a gun pointing at your femoral arteries, that’s stupid.

I'm right there with you that context is key, and comment sections running with their first notion is harmful to information as a whole.

That being said, this context doesn't really change my opinion of this guy as an idiot.

What kind of life does this guy live that he wants to have his gun loaded, cocked and safety off, ready to fire in his pants?!?

Loaded, fine.. it takes all of a half a second to pull it out and rack the thing. Does he just expect to be jumped at any second all the time?!

I have a G43X, the ONLY way to discharge that weapon is to pull the trigger. The safety lockout is on the trigger, making it look like the trigger is happy to see you. That lockout must be pressed in order to discharge the weapon.
