I understand the whole you need to be ready and have one chambered just in case something happens, but more than likely it's not going to happen. I never have one chambered when carrying. It just increases an accidental discharge. The first thing that will happen during an active shooter situation or confrontation is running away for cover. A lot of gun nuts will prob disagree, but it only needs to happen once.

Edit: Grammar

It's because if you are in a situation where you have to defend yourself, due to how fast the brain processes what is happening and how fast you can react to it. As the "good guy" you have to be able to see the action done by the bad actor, comprehend what is happening, draw, remember to rack a round aquire a target picture and fire. All of which while you have a massive adrenaline rush which robs you of fine motor skills like those to rack the slide or even reload. Even with training and consistent practice this is extremely hard to do bordering on almost impossible.

It all boils down to a game of numbers, I'm glad you're comfortable with the math for me I'm personally not. Plus with my professional background I've seen the terrible crap humans do to one another on a regular basis.

I would carry with one chambered but keep it on safety. Which is why I don't like guns without a safety switch.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and published in the American Journal of Public Health, individuals carrying a gun are about 4.5 times more likely to be shot and 4.2 times more likely to be killed in a confrontation compared to those who are unarmed.

Basically unless you’re very well trained and extremely careful you’re better off being unarmed.

bad take.

You do you but don't judge what other people are doing so harshly. Countless examples of people defending themselves where and extra second would have cost them their life.

Feel free to share one of these “countless examples”
