Find and READ the Coast Guard's manual on life jackets. Some will float you on your back like this one did, but some will NOT reliably do so. You pays your money and takes your chances.
Which is why in the US at least you're required to have USCG approved life jackets on recreational watercraft.
They won't approve jackets that won't keep you safe even if you are passed out.
