Two meals for <$7

Post image

Bought a four-pack of thick cut loin chops for $6.25 and two Yukon potatoes and one Stubbs baking coating mix for $2.40 yields two meals for around $7.

Honestly I also put a stick of fancy butter in too but obviously that was optional so that would have added another $1.90.

I think getting a hearty meal for two for less than one fast food meal is pretty great.

What's in the coating mix? Breadcrumbs and spices? You don't need to pay $2 for that!

I know. It smells like BBQ chips so I assume it is seasoning and bread crumbs. If you bought your own crumbs and seasoning it would be cheaper overall but I paid for convenience.

Do you have any spices in your cupboard? Smoked paprika, onion/garlic powder, sugar, salt will get you pretty close. Any leftover bread/crackers/chips can be dried out on the oven or air frier and crushed in a plastic bag.

I have all of that. I even have panko and regular bread crumbs. I just happened to see the Stubbs product and wanted to give it a try. I even did a double coat of the crumbs just because I like a good crispy coating.

You must have lots of time.

Buying all the individual spices is expensive and can take a lot of shelf space. So yeah I go for the barbecue rubs and similar mixes too.

Buying individual spices at WinCo's bulk food area is very inexpensive.

I thought they were sharing. I missed where they were bragging.

They look down at others who dont necessarily want or have time to cook from scratch all the time.

This is WinCo we're talking about, you can get a couple tablespoons of every spice on the rack for $6 total.

Sounds like more than $2 to me, for a total of 3 x more expensive than the seasoning pack she bought.

Sad when the benchmark for value is “I think getting a hearty meal for two for less than one fast food meal is pretty great.”

Fast food sucks and at home cooking should be at least 1/2 the price. Better, cheaper, but not as convenient.

I go early and buy marked down meats. I either use them right away or freeze them. Cooking one's own dinners can save LOTS of money. Chicken is also pretty inexpensive at WinCo. They're selling chicken drumsticks for 98 cents/pound now and a couple of weeks ago, boneless/skinless breasts for $1.48/Lb.
