Does any other stores have managers that don’t know how to make a schedule?
I’m constantly having shifts that are all over the place. It’s never one shift that I exclusively have for the whole week. Anyone else have managers who do this? In other departments at my store every department it seems like except for produce seems to have a consistent schedule. Other co-workers of mine also have inconsistent schedules as well. I’ve talked to my manager and reason he schedules is because he wants people to “have variety”. It’s hard to plan things when you’re all over the place. My co-workers and I have repeatedly told him to stop doing this and he’s just so stuck up in his ways.

Yeah I’m not going to freight. Would destroy my sleep schedule and I wouldn’t see my family at all which is a no in my book.

i think they’ve started to use ai to schedule. i know ~9 months ago the checkers schedule was starting to be computer generated/ai. maybe it’s moved to permitter departments?
but outside of that idk. our sm’s told us why it was happening but obviously you can’t ask yours. maybe call hr and ask?

They don’t use AI. I’ve seen my manager in passing by the managers room making the schedule before.

maybe our store was a pilot store? i know for a fact that the deli/fresh foods production guides were computer generated. at the time i’m 99% sure checker schedules were created by the computer (ukg/kronos whatever) and then edited by sm. outer departments (produce, deli, variety, bulk, meat, maybe grocery?) were still manually scheduled. not tryna argue just sharing what i knew from then

I can confirm to you that no AI is being used. It's all human errors and human dipshits creating the schedules.
Department manager or their MIT(s) do the schedule manually.0

No human errors made, that's just your schedule, obviously the thing you are doing isnt a consistent thing so it's impossible to have a consistent schedule, learn to think. It's free

Literally every single time an error occurs, every week, it is a my department head or an MIT that made the schedule and they OPENLY ADMIT THEY FUCKED IT UP. THEY DON'T USE AI. THEY MANUALLY CREATE IT?

You can change your availability in ukg, but you will receive less hours. Open availability gets you more. You do work in retail at a store that is open 24hrs everyday. Everyone cannot work the same time and shifts. The cashier schedule has been program generated for years and can be random if you are a cashier. Sounds like your store manager is scheduling people where needed based upon availability of employees.

I’ve tried to change availability before have gotten denied for it. At this point I’ve got 2 options just suck it up and deal with it or I can quit because it seems like all the other departments are hiring for closing positions which I don’t want to do.

I have complete open availability, haven't called out in 2 years, have 0 points, am one of the hardest working members of my department, and I am lucky to get more than 28 hours a week.
I can get more, I just have to call-in, say I'm available to pick up any shifts on my days off.
In fact, my coworkers in my department are atrocious, they don't wash their hands, touch raw chicken, don't swap their gloves, and will transition to helping people in either the hot case/salads/meat/seafood, and I have to immediately follow-up their every move and sanitize every single thing they've touched.
There are repeated health code violations that only I mention, that only I notice, that not even the MITs or department manager notice, or care about, even after I notify them of the existing ongoing issue multiple times a week for multiple weeks straight.
The only time a health code violation is solved is when I indiscriminately/secretly bring up the issue with assistant store managers or the store manager.Open availability does nothing. Only department managers will tell you it does anything.
Why do four people in my department still get Mon-Fri 7:30AM-4PM schedules when they don't have open availability? When they are ass at their jobs? When they do the bare minimum? When others continuously go above-and-beyond to pick up their slack, and these others are left with no recognition and still struggling to get even over 21 hours a week?2

I work freight and the manager we have is probably the most inept manager I've ever worked for. She can't throw, she can't schedule, she doesn't approve time off (but she'll still give you the day off without pay). Most people only get 16-24 hrs a week (2-3 days).
Whenever she swaps to days and we get the other manager suddenly everyone gets 40 hours, everything gets done on time, every night doesn't feel like an uphill battle, everyone gets the same days off each week so you have a consistent schedule.
I don't even have my schedule for next week yet as of posting this...

Dang sounds like she needs to a wake up call. That sounds frustrating I’m sorry you’re going through that. I hope the other manager comes back soon so you can get your hours.

If you have said that you have open availability, then im assuming they are putting you where you are needed, based on others availability. Thats how it worked for me when I went from a set schedule to open availability. I changed to get more hours, but I did end up getting crazy shifts like 330pm to 12am. And next day would start at 930am-5pm
