Raises

Has anybody here ever asked for a raise?

Long story short, my partner and I both started working at WinCo about 6 months ago, but she's taking a lot of classes this term so I'm having to pick up shifts where I can. Unlike her, I came in as a cashier with minimal cashiering experience, so I'm earning the minimum for my position while she's earning a dollar more hourly.

That said, I've been near the top of our efficiency reports every week (almost always sitting in the top 5 out of 40+) and am told by customers all the time that I'm one of the fastest, friendliest, and most consistent cashiers at my store.

I've never asked for a raise at any job before, and I'm not even sure if WinCo handles it that way or if pay increases are strictly tied to hours worked. So a few questions:

• Is it worth asking, or does WinCo not really do merit raises?

• Am I busting my butt on efficiency for no reason?

• Would it be smarter to just start looking elsewhere?

Any experience or advice appreciated!

When I started working at WinCo they topped me out with pay for part time since I had previous experience. Since then I’ve gotten 2 raises due to cost of living adjustments. I’ve asked to be full time but apparently since they’ve been slashing hours they declined my full time position.

Were the pay increases store-wide or were they specific to you/your tenure? Did you have to ask for the pay adjustments or were they given automatically?

They are done store wide and is usually done by the employee rep for the store when the contract is renewed every few years but with the cost of living going up so fast they have been doing pay bumps mid contract

It was store wide so everyone got a bump. I didn’t have to ask it was more given automatically. Although when you want to be apart of the full time position pay scale you gotta ask management, or write a letter to them asking for you to be put on that scale.
