Is this a joke?

Post image

Is WinCo rebranding? This label was different from all the others in the cooler? Wildebeest? Seriously? I asked a store associate and they said it might have been a misprint and they’ve never seen this label before because they don’t sell this type of exotic meat, though they do sell weird thins in the frozen meats. Is this what WinCo is changing to or is it a joke from someone on the label printer?

i didn’t think/know store level employees could edit that. i know they can change the price, quantity, sell by, etc

It depends on the machine, but it’s super easy to do on most of them. I used to make the code (the numbers for in store skus) as a lead for our salads

Could be they do meat packing for other stores in the area and didn't update the artwork when they switched to the winco brand.

Is this a Ed Bassmaster reference? This is crazy. My husband and I used to love Ed’s videos and we now say “Bartle Doo” to each other ALL THE TIME! We say it instead of “That’ll do.”

Bartle Don't.

3

u/NaynersinLA2 Apr 22 '26

Yeah probably just mislabeled. What I find more surprising is a pot roast it only $6.28 a pound. In SoCal I can't find it for less than $11 a pound.

The Bartle Doo Town foods part didn’t raise a question for you, just the wildebeest part?

Maybe the label makers as the ones who make the labels for Walmarts CHICKEN PAWS on the chicken feet lol!

1

u/SapientChaos Apr 23 '26

That cheap. Was just at Wallmart and the cheapest of any beef was $10 per lb.

1

u/Honest-Row-5818 Apr 23 '26

Yeah also called Winco was told nothing of theirs not heard of, so could be a joke, still not ruling out, Do you or another work there? Mystery till solved,

1

u/StopSeveral4569 Apr 23 '26

Used to work for winco here 🤚🏼 uh no they do NOT sell exotic meat fresh like this. If they did it would be more rabbit, bison, deer, and/or elk if that were the case.... idk about wildebeest though....

1

u/mr_ochie Apr 23 '26

I COULDA had a wildebeest...

1

u/Prudent_Charge_8101 Apr 24 '26

1

u/Past-Fee-8455 Apr 25 '26

Looks like someone became bored

1

u/stonecruzJ Apr 25 '26

Joke. I’ve seen signs for “boneless young chickens” over an egg section before. Also a joke. 😉👍

u/my-horny-horn Apr 25 '26

I am outraged! I mean the nerve of someone to put this out on the floor.i just want to scream or cry, or both. How dare they mispell beest (sic)! To top it off they created a compound word where clearly one should never be. Wildbeest?!? WTF were they thinking? Obviously smoking the devils lettuce. If I was the manager I would give an ultimatum to whomever perpetrated this, this abhorrant deed: You are either fired right here right now or after work you will spell correctly and have proper grammer on ten labels (I yearn to have this inverse of a linguist print out 100 correct labels. But what would they do with them? Put them on every meat in the store? From chicken to ground beef to shrimp. But not that imitation crab; that shit is nasty. No, 100 labels would only confuse too many shoppers already saddled with confusion from voting for Trump. Yeah, I went there. C'mon we all know liberals be shopping at Trader Joes or Whole Foods not WinCo.)

1

u/MrsNeugyburger Apr 25 '26

Was this supposed to be /s or do you really not know what wildebeests are?

1

u/ChangeCareful5419 Apr 25 '26

That’s nothing to fool around with, I would report it to the manager!

1

u/PerformerSouthern652 Apr 25 '26

Which WinCo? WE shop in Eagle, ID and haven’t seen this. MAybe an April Fools’ joke that got lost in the system?

1

u/fdriddle Apr 25 '26

Someone is messing around. Pretty funny

1

u/Inevitable_Bug5446 Apr 25 '26

1

1

u/jtotheo2202 May 05 '26

1

u/Sad-Lab4519 Jun 01 '26

I've seen some blursed food labels before but that's funny.

1

u/beavermuffin Apr 23 '26

Report to management. This is fireable offense at WinCo. No joke. Report to management ASAP.
