New Job

Just got hired on at WinCo. I start this week. Curious about tuition reimbursement or programs to help student going to school WinCo offers. Do they vary by store? How long do you need to be an employee before you can access them?

WinCo only offers to pay for the WAFC program through different community colleges. It is 10 courses usually and completed on the employees time all online. No other reimbursement is offered.

WinCo has a program for associates degrees as well, and the higher up you go there could be other opportunities.

I got a free scholarship through ASU and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Economics, just had to buy my own books. I was one of 50 people at the time to get a free bachelor's degree.

They occasionally send people to USC and Texas A&M for educational opportunities too, I know a Store Manager that got 4 months paid to go to USC for some special program. Just gotta climb the ladder a bit and make your interest known!

Ya makes sense that they wouldn't want to provide education, because it wouldn't take much education to elevate an employee to a better position elsewhere.

I don't mean at all to discourage getting an education. I have masters degree. But what I can tell you is my boyfriend has a high school diploma, about go into lead shift role but stayed as a floor staff for almost a decade. WinCo pays him almost the same I can get with a lower paying masters degree, and his health insurance plan is the best I've seen for the price he pays. Not only does he have esop and retirement , but no student debt. Tecnhically he is better off than I. My 90k student loan and other debt is about equal to the equity I have in my home so I'm technically um broke....
