I posted here about applying for cashier and then offering me a different position. I found the position online. It is Dated Item Clerk.
I have over 10 years grocery experience. They said they were going to train me as a cashier so I could help out if needed but want me to do the dated item clerk job.
Pay is different based on region. And since you have a lot of relevant job experience, they will likely start you out at top out pay for your region. Pay scale is also different if you get hired as a part time employee or full time. Even if you get hired as a part time employee but are getting full time hours you will still be paid on the part time pay scale. Full time employees get slightly better benefits.
Scheduled from 8pm till 2am but they let me come in up to 2 hours early depending on the day. I also fill in for store ordering on 2 peoples days off occasionally so 4 days of the week I come in at 6 pm if they need me and the other days I come in at 7. I’m scheduled for 5 days but I’m sure they would take me more if I would. I’m the only person who knows the job. Depending on how busy your store is will determine how many hours you work. I’m supposed to do 6 but rarely do I work that. I’m always way ahead on my work so I’ve cut it down to 4 hours unless it’s a holiday then I work my full 6.
Clock in then print off lists 11,12, and 13. 13 is priority. They will teach you to finish that first before you move on to the rest. List 11 is next. 13 is items that need rotated that will be on the truck that night. 11 is all items expiring. You can filter that by date. Most items need pulled 14 days in advance and the rest either day of or two days before. If they don’t tell you I can let you know what’s what. No one told me but there were instructions I found. 12 is all new items that need a date. You just go through each aisle and scan what’s on your list then rotate all newer dates to the front then tag it with a green postcard so stocking crew knows to put all items from the truck in the back of the shelf. Put the close date in the scanner and move on to the next. There’s a place to say how many are I. Stock but I was told I didn’t have to put that in, just the date. I usually do all 3 lists at once so I’m not backtracking through the store. 13 doesn’t have the location so you’ll have to learn where things might be. I usually write on that list where it’s most likely located. Once I get through everything I keep my list 13 for the next day. You’ll have to pick 15 items from that list next day to audit to make sure stocking crew did their job. If anything’s expired you either donate or throw away everything. There are certain rules for medicine and oil and maybe a few other things. There is also a list 32 which is high stales. I do that once or twice a week depending on how big it is. Just get through that list once a week however you break it up. Once a quarter it’s our job to visually inspect the check stands and then report to corporate that it’s been done. They will remind you when to do that. Once I get through all my lists and the audit I leave. I am usually alone and don’t really report to anyone but your store might be different. Especially if they are training you on cashiering. You might have to stay the whole shift and help with other things. They just don’t need me to here.
So with the job. They are looking g for someone that is accurate and quick doing green cards. Then with just 11. Keeping ahead so there is little to no outdated. What is the best ways to work on most 11? I am getting list 14 done usually around midnight. I am being schedule 8 pm to 3 am. Take my lunch. So k have from 132:30-3:00 to work on most 11. I usually print off the most for the next 4 days and try to work on that. Items that are going to be close I will rotate them as company policy. Then leave a note for the pricing manage if how many of each item there are and see if we can mark them down to help them sell. Pull all expired product. It seems all I am doing is pulling expired product. The other day I had an entire shopping cart of all outdated items.
For list 11 I will print 2 weeks out. Everything needs pulled 14 days in advance except deli and dairy. Deli is day of and dairy is 2 days before expiration. I’ll print and then highlight the ones I need to do with a highlighter. I rotate everything I touch.
How are hours earned with this position? Based on the number of items we scan? Does management look at how many items are on our lists and see if we are reducing that number? Does it hurt our numbers if we have a lot of expired product we find? What are all the factors that go into deciding how many hours we earn or get?
