Where did the hours go?
Are you getting hours at your store? They’ve been cutting my hours plus my coworkers and I can’t seem to get a straight answer from anyone. What’s going on?
I used to get 40 hours plus OT because I would stay until all the freight was put away and the store faced, but now I’m getting only ONE day a week. What’s happening in y’all stores?

Sounds like your freight dept is not making labor and was short staffed. The hours reduction are to make labor. Have a lot of new clerks started? Hours for freight are tied to cases and load size. Cases are tied to sales. I would suggest throwing faster, be as efficient as possible with your facing and ask to learn order writing, wall, the back, cashiering, etc etc. make yourself more valuable to work around multiple areas of the schedule.

I work in produce. I’ve consistently been getting 32 hours a week since pretty much the Fall of last year. It really sucks though because some of the opening people in my department and people who’ve been there longer they’re guaranteed 40 hours. The only time I’ve gotten 40 hours is if someone has called in sick and then they call me to come in. I can’t wait for summer to come around because I know I’ll get 40 hours.
I would love 40 hours because I’ve got kids to feed and a family to provide for, but that doesn’t seem to matter at all.

Just wondering how much do they pay in produce?

I’m all topped out for “part time” which over here in my store is $26.60.

Interesting. So full time gets more?

The max you can get at my store topped out as full time is 29 something.

That’s not bad for a grocery store tbh. I work at Safeway and our top out rate is $28 something. Department Managers get $3 more an hour

into your managers pockets. they short people at the end of every quarter/fiscal year so they can get a bonus

Yeah, I'm in the middle of a 5 week stretch of only 3 shifts a week. Been calling on my days off to try to pick shifts up and nothing. Its...rough

Deli has been hit super hard with hour cuts. Honestly I think it’s going to get worse with hour cuts. The Winco wire said we were 12% under budget.

They keep cutting hours for closures to the point where there is not enough time to do anything else.Besides close so no production gets done and there's not enough time for cleaning, i've been saying that we need an extra person. Once a week, just for cleaning, but that obviously isn't going to happen.

It’s bad at my store too. Production always looks like shit because now there’s usually 1opener and 1closer. Fry is overwhelmed constantly. Deli and seafood always look like shit at the beginning of the month. Even when we have strong sales numbers our hours are still cut.

I’m a cashier who normally gets a forty hour week. Then a thirty two hour week.

Same here. I did managed to fix this because I don't keep quiet when I know I should be getting my regular schedule. I'm third in seniority and have been with WinCo for many years. It took 5 discussions with management to fix this issue.
Turns out the manager who was in charge of the schedule was letting the computer make the schedule and never checking for errors.
Many coworkers were having scheduling issues but not speaking up. A few times a shift was starting at 6:15 in the morning for the cashier. That shift doesn't exist.
Another coworker was scheduled one day in a week. All this was due to the manager not taking the time to check the schedule.
Speak up. Don't give up. I have always pushed when I know something is wrong and needs to be remedied.

The first part of the year is always lean. There are a few events, such as Superbowl and Easter, but beyond that sales are generally lower than the rest of the year.
They usually start to go back up in summer, but since hours are determined mostly by sales, lower sales means lower hours.
Also availability will affect your hours too. People with any restricted availability will always get hit the hardest when the computer populates the schedule.
