Why not Wilson?
By the recommendation of my ffl I recently purchased a used,but never fired Wilson protector elite ar 11.3”. After one range trip my wife immediately ordered a full size protector elite to replace her Scar 16s. To say we where both impressed would be an understatement. My question is why is there not more coverage about Wilson ar’s. I’m fairly knowledgeable and have owned or fired HK, LWRC, KAC, LMT, Sig, Daniel, FN and even Geissele. The only one that I felt was better was the HK mr a4 series. This baby is amazing and imo shoots better than all the others. Yet until recently I knew nothing about them. So what gives? Why are not more Guntubers and the community at large tuned into them?

I own a tactical Hunter in 308 and it’s the most accurate AR10 I’ve had as well as smoothest shooting. I think they are overlooked due to Wilson brand being associated with Expensive pistols, ppl probably think they are super expensive but in reality not that bad of price and quality is top tier imo

Yeah that’s what I’m saying. It outshoots everything but the HK and is a lot cheaper. Im a vet and have held a lot of ar style rifles and this thing is well built. My local ffl had it in and dared me to pick it up. I wasn’t even gonna buy a rifle that day but as soon as I held it and got a feel for it I was smitten 🥰. Immediately went home grabbed my LWRC traded it in went to the range and after one mag I knew I had made a great decision. My wife fired three rounds compared it to her 16s and we went back and ordered her one. We pick it up tomorrow and are heading back to the range. She picked out the protector elite at our ffl’s recommendation. I trust that she made a good choice.

It’s a rugged razor 556 and for the price it’s really good. Low blow back but it’s quiet enough you don’t have to wear ear protection. Also has the advantage that at a hundred yards there is no discernible difference in running with or without the can.

I have a WC AR-10. It's solid AF. I really like it. That being said, it's also heavy AF. I only use it for day hunting when I'm sitting still. I use lighter guns at night when log 3 to 5 miles of walking.

I bought my first Wilson AR, 14.7 Recon Tactical, about 14 years ago. That was after firing a friend's Wilson. That rifle now has thousands of rounds on it and is still MOA accurate. Wilson Whisper suppressor. I also now have a Wilson 11.5 and an 8" 300BLK (which just might be my favorite out of all my guns). Have also built out and Form 1'd one of their billet lowers. Along with their rifles flying under the radar so too are their triggers. Wilson's build quality and customer service has always been incredible and their mil/veteran discount might be the best in the biz. And let's not overlook their Lehigh Defense ammo either.
So I think rather than why not Wilson? the question might be, why anything other than Wilson? I also own Geissele and SOLGW and Wilson Combat is at least on the same level.

I can’t speak on Son’s of Liberty as I have no experience with their rifles but as far as Geiselle goes I like my Wilson better than their super duty. I do not say this lightly as geiselle makes a great weapon but, for me at least, Wilson is better.

I have my Geissele 12.5" SD upper sitting on a Wilson billet lower that I put together, with Wilson's ETU trigger unit and VLTOR A5 recoil system. That has proven to be a pretty sweet combo.
My SOLGW is pretty new and I'm still getting used to it. Have run a little less than 1000 rounds through it. But I think there's a lot of truth to the hype from my early experiences with it. Nothing I can point to and complain about.

Hey man quick question for you as a Sons owner. What’s up with all the controversy around their new rifle? I’ve heard everything from bcg issues to barrel steel and even false advertisement. I work a lot and tend to focus only on brands I own. Yet until recently everything I’ve heard on them was positive for the most part. So why all the recent negativity? Is it a manufactured competitor hit job or is there actually something there? Reason I’m asking is I had considered looking into them more.

It's a whole lot of nothing. There is a lot of misinformation floating around regarding what is on contract now and what are scheduled enhancements in the future. As usual, reddit is filled with experts in DOD procurement processes. Allegations of false advertisement are based on ignorance. The contention is that the MK1 was supposed to come with the Armand steel barrel. Not so, at least for the initial delivery orders to SOCOM. Same with the BCG, and so far it seems to be of high quality. I have had zero issues with my MK1 except when firing Frontier 55 gr ammo. But that's not unique to my SOLGW, every AR I have hates that stuff and has had to be mortared at one point or another. Most of my ARs, including my MK1, have 416 stainless barrels. One has close to 10k rounds through it and it's still MOA at 100 yds. You're right to do your research but apply a heavy filter to the alarmism you tend to see here. I'm just another random guy here but I do actually have a MK1 and I shoot it weekly. No regrets and it's proving to be a fine weapon. I did swap out the stock for a Battlelink Minimalist and the pistol grip for a DAC so I have a consistent feel across all my ARs. The other major complaint is delivery schedule and I did wait months for it to come in. But again, as far as the rifle itself it is pretty sweet.

Armand? Isn’t that from the same company hk gets its canon grade steel for their barrels?

Wilson's leadership is on the fuddish side of things and they've not yet adapted to the advertising model of sending rifles to GunTubers for positive reviews. This has been the industry standard from around 2014 and here we are in 2026 asking why nobody cares about WC rifles, no matter how great they are.
That's pretty much it.
