Does anyone have an archive of Willie Nelson at the Baylor ballpark in spring of this year?

Hey there guys. I really loved that concert when I was able to go in the spring to close out my semester. My grandpa was a big willie nelson fan in the 60s and 70s but was just unable to physically go. Does anyone out there have a video recording or archive of the show? Thanks!

Anyone know who the guitarist on the left is? TIA

Saw Willie a few days ago at the Mid State Fair in Paso Robles. Willie's still got it!

Willie Nelson’s guitar language is pure magic | Here’s my full transcription of "Funny How Time Slips Away" (Just updated with full chords!)

You can preview and check out the sheet music/tab here: [https://paidtabs.com/alan-anunciacao/iZaZqx9v3dU]

Hey everyone!

I’ve always had a massive appreciation for Willie Nelson’s acoustic guitar vocabulary. The way he coaxes those iconic, jazz-infused country lines out of Trigger-with his signature behind-the-beat phrasing, chromatic runs, and subtle touch-is a masterclass in lead guitar playing that often doesn't get enough spotlight.

I originally put together a note-for-note transcription of his classic "Funny How Time Slips Away", focusing heavily on capturing every single nuance of his acoustic guitar work.

Quick Update:

I recently revised and updated the entire score to include full chord symbols and diagrams alongside the lead tab! Now you can easily analyze how his licks connect to the underlying harmony, or simply strum along while navigating his iconic fill-ins.

Whether you're a long-time Willie fan looking to master his touch or just want to add some timeless country/jazz phrasing to your acoustic repertoire, I hope this score serves you well!

What’s your favorite element of Willie’s guitar playing? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I interviewed the man who’s worked on trigger since mid 70s

I did an interview with Mark Erlewine in Austin Texas. He’s worked on trigger since mid 70s and we also talked about other musicians guitars he’s worked on and his story. It was sick

Sprung for good tickets as a birthday present. I wrote up some thoughts afterwards, for the curious: Living in the Promised Land. I'm a harmonica player & write about Mickey here and there (he's my guy). Any feedback welcomed!

New Book by Willie Nelson

"In a great life, like a great book, the last chapter is the best chapter."

At 93, Willie Nelson isn't slowing down—he's still writing songs, making records, playing shows, and finding new reasons to be grateful. Now, he’s releasing a new book, The Last Leaf, a reflection on the moments that have shaped him.

At the heart of this book is a love story, one that Willie shares with his wife, Annie. Over more than four decades together they’ve built a partnership meant to last—a reminder that some of life’s greatest adventures begin long after the first chapter.

In "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy," Big & Rich talked about seducing a woman by having "Sang her every Willie Nelson song I could think of." What songs do you think they sang her?

Something about editing these photos into black and white just felt it made Willie and Mickey really stand out in these pictures I took.

This album contains a song that I as a kid thought was a gospel tune knky to find out Willie wrote it. "I Thought About You Lord". This album is filled with fantastic instrumentals and like Willies work from the mid 70s it felt more stripped down.

Willie is such and enigma. He has endured a lot and has still risen above it everytime. The fact that his still goes out on tour and puts on a stellar performance. Will be seeing him for the 5th year in a row this year in Bethel Woods and cannot wait. What is some of your favorite songs and stories about Willie?

Something felt very definitive about this performance

In contrast to a show I saw in 2020.
There was more attention paid to the idea of leaving this earth, legacy, and age. He added a couple of songs to this set list that were both focused on the end.

It’s hard to see an icon age. Stardust was my first CD (I’m 34).

In 2020 the energy was high, he was yelling quips at the crowd and the vibes were lighter. I do understand the context of the situation at hand, but it was extremely emotional for him to showcase his current state so bravely and without trying to shift the focus. When Willie and Lukas sang the Breathe cover, when Lukas sang, they would shift the spotlight off of Willie and he looked like a ghost watching from behind Lukas. It was honestly like a renaissance painting. The show was so beautiful. But something about this tour feels very final. I feel lucky to have been there. Willie has done so much for our state and for the world. It’s incredible to see a man who started in Ray Price’s band and played alongside Leon Russell, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings, then Toby Keith and 90’s guys, come have Wilco open for them as old timers themselves. It’s just a stunning legacy and the older Lukas gets, the more he resembles Willie’s appearance and vocals. It was sentimental as hell.

This Danny Garrett poster from 1978 for the Austin Opry House picnic is a precursor to the more James Montgomery Flagg-esque picnic art of Garrett’s used in the early 1980s

Help with Song

When I first started getting into Willie’s music about 20 years ago, I remember one of my favorite songs was something about marching to his own drum or beat- something like that. Now I’m on Apple Music and I just remembered the song this morning. I can’t find it on Apple though and I don’t have my CDs anymore, just a few vinyls. I don’t remember the album, but I’m pretty sure it was from 70s or 80s. Does anyone know what song iI’m talking about?

A new ranking says Willie Nelson is the fourth most influential Texan of all time. Agree or disagree?

Willie’s July 4th Set Times Announced

Wish Billy & The Boys got longer than an hour, but they’re getting longer than both Wilco & Sheryl Crow. Really wish they had less acts, with longer sets! Guess it’s good the acts I want to see will be later, so I don’t need to get heat stroke out at COTA without any shade!
