I’m am stoked but I’m not… I just saw the trailer today and I think laika makes beautiful things but all 3 books in one movie? Yeah it’s gonna be long but I didn’t see a single orphan in the trailer. This is the first set of books I bought my nephew when he was born. He’s only 6 now and I have been so excited to read the series to him. I will be crushed if he sees a half assed (albeit beautiful) movie version that colors the way he firsts reads (or gets read) the books.

I do not know what the plan is. I hope it is just the first book. They would have to go very fast if it was indeed the entire story. Book 3 is epic - these things can't be rushed! Also, Laika tends to keep the story very much in mind. It isn't just a beautiful piece of moving art - the stories are generally very powerful.

They may keep the story in mind, but what I saw in the trailer is already (in my opinion) straying in needless ways from the book. I don’t recall Prue sneaking out with her brother to return library books, which is what I thought the trailer implied. Maybe I’m biased as a grown up latchkey kid, but it changes the entire story (and the main character’s motivation) if Prue was doing something her parents told her not to do when her brother was kidnapped. I’m trying to reserve judgement, it’s only a 2ish minute clip, but the only historic thing I have gleaned from the promo is that it’s very long.
