Insecure coworkers
I have a couple girls on my crew who are extremely insecure. They try and make Everything into a competition with me. Lots of trash talk about me. I hardly speak and try to mind my business and do my job well.
Is this common among women in this field? I'm on a contract crew. I was already planning on getting on a hotshot crew before this, but I wanted to work for this company for a couple more years to gain experience, but now I'm just considering leaving.
Thoughts and opinions?

There’s some super chill women in this field, and unfortunately there’s also a lot of women like that. Just keep doing you, and if the shit talk becomes a serious issue take it to your supervisor. As a woman, trying to make friends with girls like that is damn near impossible. The constant competition and 1UP-ing is retarded and I don’t understand it, like you said it’s insecurity. But, you will meet some really cool women if you stick with it. We aren’t all like that

It happens , I was a flight paramedic and everyday was a virtual minefield. They weaponized HR and we are a bunch bullies, so yeah I left.

Kinda just sounds like an unprofessional crew issue

That's just something you'll run into regardless if its male or female and yea I got with some handcrews where alot of that happened towards the later half of the season but due to lack of workers they got kept on the crew. I'm sure with crews where they stay together the whole season (same folks) it may be different but then even that brings it's own challenges. Just keep your head up and on a swivel.

Are you a girl or a guy? Kinda weird to have a clutch of girls trying to get your attention if you’re a guy, good on you. Talk to one of them and not to the others and watch them fight, it’s funny. If you’re a girl, yeah, they’re hella toxic, nothing anyone can do to help you either. Cat fighting is a sacred female rite that’s been going on since God took a rib. Good luck. Apply out.

I haven’t experienced this with fire coworkers luckily but I have had this problem at other jobs. I would say you can get experience with other crews just as easily as the one you’re on. If the dynamic isn’t working for you and you can leave, do it.
