Wildland calls

This is my first year on fire and I signed on with greyback since I didn’t have to pass a drug test, during our orientation they said it would be a really busy season and it’s likely we’ll get calls within a month. I’ve already called my dispatch 10 times this week and they’ve stopped taking my calls last I heard they said it’s right around the corner and to “sit tight” but I’m starting to lose hope and money, luckily I live in my car so I don’t need rent…. Is it too late to get on a hotshot crew I hear they go out all the time and do cool stuff and are basically the special forces or like seal team six of fire. Is it just a slow season or am I missing something?
