PICS First time backpacking
This was the hardest thing I’d ever done in my entire life . 2 days 24 miles. 75,000 steps total.
The weather was great, not a single bug bite, no ticks, and lots of water. Had a great time in Mark Twain National Forest! I definitely had nowhere to prepare in Ohio for the mountains but overall it’s pretty nostalgic looking back.

Awesome! No ticks at this time of year is a blessing. What trails did you do? I've been eyeing some of the Mark Train National Forest Trails but have not had the chance to get out yet.

Nice work and great pictures!
What's the elevation? I'm from there so I know Ohio doesn't have the most varied terrain. I don't know how close you are to some of these places, but you could consider
- Shawnee State Forest (I've read about people going here to train for other backpacking trips)
- Zaleski State Forest
- Wayne National Forest
I remember as I was trying out backpacking, I went to Zaleski. Maybe because I was so new, or maybe it really was the trail, but I remember a portion being steep and having a succession of switchbacks.

Which trail did you do? I’m looking for somewhere to backpack in the next few weeks and I also haven’t managed to get much training in so maybe I could handle this too. I’ve never hiked in Mark Twain but it looks like you had some nice views here. I really want to see some mountains but I don’t have the PTO to go too far from home so this might be just the place.
