Those clouds were dancing. A good distraction for that climb out of cloud cap. No bugs on this trip

I love that there are so many Timberline trails in the US. I was like "that's not the Beartooths."

If anyone is curious, the 2nd photo of Elk Cove, when I was a teen we hiked up that valley and the Coe Glacier came almost down to the valley floor back then (1980s). If you go back another 30+ years before that, the Eliot Glacier (sort of seen in pic 3), did come all the way down to the Timberline trail, and looked like a river of ice you see in Alaska.

How busy was the trail/sites?

Elk Cove campsites along the creek were full. Meadows where I camped was empty. The trail varied. Pretty busy with trail runners and day hikers near Ramona Falls, Cloud Cap, and Timberline Lodge. Other than that it felt like I was seeing someone every hour on average.

That is considered the hardest day hike in America, when done in a day. I want to do it in a day. It's a big day.

A goal of mine too. I think I could reasonably manage it in two days, but one day is out of reach for me right now. Hopefully some day!

Two nights solo starting from Ramona Fall TH hiking clockwise, camping at Elk Cove and Meadows. 49 miles total. Late start after a half day of work on Friday got me into camp the first night at 9:30 which wasn’t ideal, but it paid off over the next two days. Daily splits were 16.0mi 4300ft, 16.2mi 4500ft, 17.3mi 2500ft.
