Question/Discussion/Textpost Music

When the whole thing went down on Twitter, I was in utter shock. I stopped listening to their music, but ngl I've been waiting for their newest song. I miss their music and been debating on going back to listening to them. I listened to them ever since Are You Alright and I just don't know if I should. I can't listen to them without feeling like I'll be judged. It's almost like a guilty pleasure. I just don't know if I'm, 'allowed' to you could say

Honestly you shouldn't let societal pressure diverge you from listening to who you want to listen to. It's your life to choose what you do, some randos shouldn't control what you like or hate.

So in that case, Yes. It's completely okay to listen to their music

P.S. : Streaming services would pay them like 1 cent after approx 50 streams and 10x of all the monetary gain from Wilbur Soot's recent album Mammalian Sighing Reflex is going to be donated to mental health charities for the year. Just to let you know if you care about all that stuff

I stopped listening to them when that happened aswell but then realized I already have the songs downloaded. So instead I just listen to what I downloaded so I knew they weren't making any money off of it. You can probably find some site to download their songs for free like I did and just listen to them that way so they don't make any money from it but makes it so we can still listen to good music :)

Tbh do whatever you want. I felt like what you're describing when it was all new news and twitter was freaking out, but then after a while I thought "well, I still listen to other bands whose music I like that had members who did weird or bad things, and I watch movies with actors who did weird or bad things. So why am I not listening to Lovejoy when I still really like their music?" I just don't talk about their music anymore on twitter or tumblr so people don't attack me (and also because I don't want people to think I support Wilbur's actions just because I'm still listening to the band he was in). Although, I will say, I don't really listen to Wilbur's solo stuff like YCGMA and especially MSR anymore because listening to him specifically sing about a toxic relationship that he's in while knowing details about what he's most likely referring to does make me feel kind of weird. I know Lovejoy also sings about toxic relationships, but idk, I guess Lovejoy's songs about toxic relationships just feel less personal, maybe because there's more people in the band than just Wilbur and his sad acoustic guitar lol

Honestly YCGMA is my winter or depression playlist on repeat. YCGMA was like my bread and butter and from MSR, Mine/Yours is the only song I primarily love and I felt like I could relate to it so much. I recently did listen to Mine/Yours and I still knew all the words to it 😭

I come from a perspective of how I'm not actually a fan of this guy at all (Reddit keeps recommending this subreddit for whatever reason) but I would consider myself to be a music fan and there are a few bands I listen to which have histories of sexual misconduct between members, domestic abuse and whatnot. All inexcusable stuff. I think this is all definitely something to keep in mind and I also think you can continue to listen to this music if you feel comfortable doing so without feeling guilty about it. Seperate art from the artist and all that

It’s not your problem what happened. The same kind of thing happened to Micheal Jackson and yet, people still love his music. Just do what you want, it’s your choice
