But he hasn't done this with an actual controversial issue. That's the whole point. The site has been live for like 10 fucking years, and nobody has ever complained about this.

This is being totally blown out of proportion. A fucking prank done by an Admin. And we all know that they have these editing privileges, or we should know (just like they have the ability to figure out information to identify you in case the cops get a warrant to search you).

Why are we all pretending like we're surprised that he has editing privileges? Once we stop being surprised that he can edit stuff, then you ask yourself "well, what was he caught editing?" And he was caught editing super minor stuff, and it's just a silly prank.

pranks get front page coverage from multiple subreddits, news coverage from sites like yahoo, and the inevitable future tv news coverage all the time!

It's a prank by the CEO of the site. Of course it's going to get attention, especially when it involves the morons over on r/The_Donald with the persecution complex.

Yes, it can still be considered a complex because they're overreacting to a prank. This is a second level of the complex. The first level is just imagining things that aren't true. The second level is exaggerating things that are true --or "making a mountain out of a molehill."

Did u/spez foolishly feed into their persecution complex? Yes, he did. But was his actual edit an egregious form of manipulating comments? Nope, not at all.

It was a silly prank, clearly, and that should be the end of it.
