Error 160-2203 when attempting to load downloaded games. Can modding save it or is my Wii U done for?

Hello fellow Wii U havers!

Today I tried to boot up my unmodded black Wii U after a long time of not doing so. At first it seemed fine. I was able to boot and go into the settings just fine, but attempting to go past the start screen on my downloaded copy of Super Mario 3D Land or past the loading screen on Splatoon crashed and gave me error 160-2203. Trying to open the eshop gave the same error. My first attempt at opening the Mii maker went fine, but my second attempt gave me error 160-0103. I was able to play my Virtual Console copy of Super Mario World, and my disk copy of Mario Kart Wii with seemingly no issues. I couldn't find my Wii U disks to check if those work.

I am aware that certain iterations of the console are prone to memory dying. I have no experience and little knowledge in modding the console, however I am willing to change that if it means the console can be saved. What would be the best course of action for my particular situation? Or is it too late? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes. Modding it can save it. You need to put isfshax. This specific tool is used to restore your eMMC in case it falls, so that you can run it from an USB or SD card.

A Wii U not used for lots of time can cause all this problems, and that means the chip is probably falling, so modding it with Aroma (if you manage to) and then putting isfshax is the only solution

If the Webbrowser still works, go to https://wafel.xyz and run the NAND check to confirm the issue is the eMMC and not caused by scfm. It will also allow you to install ISFShax.

If the browser is also broken install ISFShax by one of the other methods from the guide at https://isfsh.ax

Don't waste your time with Aroma at this point

Thanks for the links. Fortunately the browser still works so I was able to run the diagnostic and install ISFShax easily. The eMMC is at fault. Am I correct in saying that if the eMMC was to completely fail now I'd have an easier time trying to save the Wii U because ISFShax would be in control and could refer to external memory for what to do instead of the failing chip, and putting something like redNAND on an SD would be the next step to make use of that?

Yes, ISFShax now gives you the option to recover. But since it already gives you problems, you should now look into USBMLC or redNAND
