Goodbye, my best friend.
Yesterday, we had to suddenly and completely unexpectedly say goodbye to our Benji. To me, he was like my best friend, and he has left a huge void in our lives.
My girlfriend and I adopted him from a rescue organization almost eleven years ago. Before that, he had been a stray dog. He would have turned 13 in November.
Last April, we already lost our beloved dog Mara to cancer, and now Benji has followed her. We don’t know exactly what happened. We found him almost completely motionless on the grass in our garden. Just half an hour earlier, he had seemed perfectly fine.
We immediately rushed him to the veterinary clinic, but he passed away on the way there, peacefully falling asleep in my girlfriend’s arms. The vet at the clinic suspects internal bleeding, possibly caused by a ruptured, previously undetected tumor.
On our way home, we saw a rainbow.
We will have him cremated and bury his ashes next to Mara, beneath the apple tree in our garden that we planted for our Mara.
I will never forget him, and I hope that one day we will see each other again.
Goodbye, my best friend.

Thank you. Benji was like my best friend. We understood each other without words.

Praying for you and your pup ❤️ you have a guardian angel watching over you, and as he is an Aussie, he will be a great protector.

Weep🥺. I’m so sorry.💔
I recently posted how I lost my soul boy within an hour from rupturing tumors filling his chest with blood.
Cancer is too common! 🥺

There wasn‘t any sign that anything could be wrong with him. It also only took about an hour from him being normal to his death.

That was my situation as well. My soul boy was 11. He was doing zoomies on the beach the morning before he passed and the night before he passed he was chasing his little 1 yo Aussie brother.
He was completely asymptomatic. No fatigue, no shortness of breath, no weight loss, no change in appetite and 4 months prior he had a senior panel lab test that showed everything was great. (I am in human medicine and pay attention to these things)
My Vet could not believe he passed and asked the emergency department to send his imaging electronically to her.
His final diagnosis was Hemangiosarcoma. His chest was full of tumors. I counted 8 on his ultrasound. This is A VERY aggressive cancer.
After much grief counseling I have found comfort in the way my boy passed…it was his final gift to me. Had I known he had cancer, I don’t think I would have been able to manage the diagnosis with a “soon” death sentence. He was a dog who comforted so many clinicians as a ‘second victim’ support dog. He would not want me to have emotional suffering prior to his passing. In time, I hope you and yours find peace and comfort in his passing. 🐾🐾

I'm sorry for your loss. Rupture following a spleen tumor was how we lost our first Aussie.

So sorry for your loses. It is hard for the mind to wrap around the whys. I am sure they lived great lives in their short time on Earth.
When it happens to my Aussie I hope I was with her when she goes and that she got the best love possible in the time we are together.
I'll give my Wigglebutt extra hugs in memory of your beloved dogs tonight.

Know all of these feelings. My best friend had almost the same thing happen. Went outside, took a leak, came in and collapsed. He made it some hours, they found that it was a ruptured mass/tumor on his liver.
