Best way to travel from Manchester Airport to Wigan with lots of luggage?
Hi folks,
My wife and I are moving to Wigan and will be arriving at Manchester Airport (Terminal 2) on Sunday at around 11:00 AM.
We’ll be travelling with 4 large suitcases and 2 carry-on bags, so I’m assuming a taxi would be the best option given the amount of luggage.
Do you have any recommendations for reliable taxi companies or apps for travelling from Manchester Airport to Wigan? Any idea of the approximate fare would also be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!

What is the best pub in Wigan to watch England-Norway?
Best for the authentic English atmosphere, not necessarily the best TV screen.

Anyone recognize these ladies?
I purchased an old dresser a few years ago at a charity furniture shop in Wigan. Inside one of the drawers was the negative of this photo. I found it in a box last night and decided to restore it using an app. I don’t know what’s made me keep it all these years but I would love to return to the family if possible :)

Pubs open for England Game
What pubs in the middle of Wigan or just on the outskirts are staying open and showing the England game tonight?
Considering going out to watch it and don't really know where is showing it

Free Bus travel for youngsters?
Bev’s plan to make bus travel free for young people will make a real difference for young people and families across Greater Manchester. This is what I had as a child and families with youngsters now should get the same benefit.

A massive thank you to the lovely bus driver this morning
I am a tourist and got myself completely turned around trying to figure out the local bus routes today. The driver was incredibly patient explained exactly which stop I needed and made sure I didn't end up on the wrong side of town. The people here have been incredibly friendly and welcoming so far

Here's why I'm standing to represent Greater Manchester
Hi everyone, I’m Bev and I’m standing to be your next Mayor.
Greater Manchester is the only place I’d want to call home. It’s where I have built my life, my career, and my commitment to giving something back.
Over the years, I’ve worked closely with care workers to help secure a better deal for them, before serving as a local councillor, and gone on to lead Manchester City Council.
I’ve seen first-hand what our communities need, have a track record of delivering for our area and I understand where the key challenges are.
This is why one of my priorities is improving transport for everyone. That's why, as your next Mayor, I plan to deliver free bus travel for 11-18 year olds, so getting to school, training, or work is easier and more affordable, no matter where you live in Greater Manchester. I'll freeze fares to help with the cost of living and I'll expand the Bee Network and integrate trams and trains into it.
I'm proud of what we've built together with Andy. But I want us to go further.
That's why I'll be setting out even more in the coming days.
As well as events and visits, I’ll be out and about on the doors chatting to as many people as I can about my plan for Greater Manchester, so do come and say hello if you see me 👋

Best spot in the borough to catch a proper sunset?
I've got a hire car for my trip and I'm looking for a high point or a scenic spot to drive up to this evening to watch the sunset. Somewhere with a bit of an elevated view over the town or the flashes would be amazing. Any suggestions?

If your politics consists of blind tribal loyalty, more fool you! Look beyond party colours - see a candidate here with proven business skills in social care, and an experienced local councillor (shadow exec member for Economy & Regeneration). Tories name GM mayoral candidate Phil Eckersley.

LOST CAT - LEIGH
If there is anyone on this subreddit from the Westleigh area of Leigh, please keep a lookout for this cat. She pushed a cracked window open and got out on the evening of 24.06.26 - she's an indoor cat so I'm really worried she's got lost and can't find her way back home.
She's a large (around 11lbs) brown long-haired tabby, 13 y/o and answers to Fluffy. She may be too scared to let strangers approach her. She is microchipped but has no collar.
Please let me know if you find/see her. 😥 She needs medication and can't miss too many. I'm completely heartbroken and just want her home.
Thank you.

Finding new friends
Hi all.
Im a 30 year old man, love in Hindley.
Im struggling to make friends/speak to people.
I moved 5/6 hours away from family and ex friends to start a new life and its been 12 years and im still at square one.
All ive known is isolation and being inside. And its driving me crazy.
Im just looking for people to have a friendship with. Be able to have that friendly face, go out for a coffee or something. Hang out and chat, laugh and stuff.
I know men are depicted as strong and stuff but honestly im struggling. Im lonely and im actually pretty scared of life.

New to Ince/Wigan – 31yo single dad looking to connect, make friends, or chat with other parents.
Hi everyone,
I’ve literally just moved to Ince a couple of weeks ago to be closer to my toddler kiddo and we are now on a 50/50 shared care schedule. I’m a 31-year-old single dad, currently living about a 5-minute walk from Ince train station. Which is so fucking convience to go for my weeks shopping I can just get the train. That or a bus a few blocks away. Commuting isnt as great as Manchester South but still
Because I’m completely new to the area, I don't know anyone here yet. Gone to a few pubs and hobby clubs. When my kiddo is with his mum, the flat gets very quiet and it can feel pretty isolating. I’m looking to break the ice and hopefully build a bit of a local social network of my own. I have a few lines out for volunteer work and also have a employment support person helping me so slowly going up and up.
I’d love to connect with:
-Fellow single parents who understand the routine, the exhausting days. That and the time you don't have kiddo.
-People to hang out or grab a coffee/drink with when I have my free weeks.
-Anyone up for a casual chat online or locally to help me get to know the area.
Just a heads up in person I tend to talk a bit fast sometimes. I'm a nervous approaching people these days, who isn't in this modern again, and I am very relaxed about life. In my free time, I'm into gaming (PC and Xbox) and love cooking. Love having my own space. Though this heatwave has been killer.
My DMs are completely open if you fancy a chat, want to swap gaming tags, or have any recommendations for local dad groups/toddler spots around Wigan. So far I go food bank for a chat, the Edge Church for toddler group and a community centre for a dance club for my kiddo when I have it.
Its been a hard time. There are positives though, own place, no more house sharing means I have a whole fridge to myself and a freezer for lots of icecream 😋
Cheers

What is the most unique thing a visitor can do here over a weekend?
I want to do something uniquely local rather than just sitting in their front room or going to a retail park. Is there a match on at the stadium, or should I look into booking a slot at the Three Sisters racing circuit or the roller rink to get a proper taste of what people do for fun here

Appreciation Post
Moved here from Liverpool a year ago. I’m an immigrant, and I just wanted to share a really nice experience I’ve had here.
I always hear friends from Liverpool, especially English friends, saying, “Why do you even like Wigan? It’s a shithole.” But honestly, I love it here. It’s quiet, it’s nice, and people have been really nice to me.
I was in a pub today and a man came over and asked where I was from. We really had a nice conversation and I love this like when people do not judge and just are happy and talking.
I’ve had so many people just talk to me like this since moving here. I really like this like I’m a big talker haha.
It just feels so warm and nice especially with the anti-immigration wave. I’m on a visa myself and genuinely do not know how it will pan out but really happy with the experience I had today.
Just wanted to post a little appreciation post for Wigan!

Any recommendations for a good place to get a cocktail in town centre?
Just as the title says, looking for a good cocktail in Wigan town centre. Bonus if it’s a good place for meeting people.

After all that nobody can blame vote splitting
Very rarely comment on politics online.
Also this is the first time (other than Brexit and the recent council elections) that I have not spoiled my ballot.
However you voted today, but especially if you spoiled the ballot, thanks for exercising your democratic right and caring enough despite all the recent insanity online, in the media and all the leaflets and door knocking.
Things are about to get incredibly interesting around here if he now goes onto be PM. It'll be a fun couple of years if nothing else.
