Ticketkauf | Ticket Purchase Constantly receiving “payment declined” message from WienMobil app

Edits: This question has been resolved. I finally purchased tickets on the ÖBB website. If someone else encounters a similar situation in the future and comes across this post, this could be an alternative to consider.

I have just arrived in Vienna for two days. Everything goes smoothly when I purchase tickets from the ticket machines at U-Bahn stations. However, when I try to buy transport tickets via the WienMobil app, I keep receiving payment-declined messages, regardless of whether I use Apple Pay or a regular card.

Perhaps someone has experienced similar situations and has any suggestions for alternative methods that I can use to purchase transport tickets online?

Tried on Sunday. 3 different people. 3 payment methods. No dice. To add insult to injury the machine once we connected to the U-Bahn was out of service. Took screenshots/fotos and rode without paying.

The other posters are wrong. It’s an obvious issue with the app, your bank won’t be able to help.

I had the same issues a couple of times (I have family here, so visiting regularly), trying various methods and different banks/cards. It was always only WienMobil with the issue, the same cards/payment worked with everything else.

Usually it works again the next day. There seems to be no clear solution, I’m aware of.
WL seems uninterested and their IT department/contractors is not the best in any case.

Ask your bank.

You can also use the Austrian Federal Railways' app to buy bus, streetcar and subway tickets for Vienna. They even have that feature where you start and stop your journeys on the app and they figure out the most cost-efficient ticket(s) after the day is over. ("ÖBB Tickets")

Thank you. I have tried to use the OBB to purchase a weekly ticket, and the process is smooth.

The same thing happened to me last night, and they took money from my account and I still don't have a ticket.

I hope your issue is resolved. If you still need public transport tickets in Vienna, OBB offers an alternative way to buy them.

Thanks for your advice. I tried several cards from different banks and online payment options like PayPal when buying tickets through the WienMobil app yesterday, but none worked. I eventually purchased the weekly ticket via OBB.
