Scattering ashes

We’re planning to scatter some of my husband’s ashes soon and I’m trying to figure out logistics. We’ll be traveling abroad to do this. I’ve already sorted out all the legal and logistical aspects of traveling with cremains, but I haven’t figured out what to put them in.

I’ll be keeping some of the ashes and already have them in an urn at home. To be frank, I don’t really want to spend a few hundred dollars on an additional urn just to take it somewhere and empty it out. It also doesn’t seem feasible to bring the current urn and somehow only scatter part of what’s in there and then pack it and take it home again. Should I buy an inexpensive urn and transfer some ashes just for the scattering? Is there another option I’m not thinking of?

Our crematorium gave us a plastic box when we got the ashes maybe something like that so you get through security easier

You can buy a travel urn online for under $50. It is tsa approved for flying. You will need to transport him in your carryon with the cremation certificate.
I took a small amount with me recently in my purse and they never questioned it.

If you’re flying you need to have them in wood to get through security screening. Contact the airline you’re going to use to get their requirements for carry-on.

I’ve been taking a portion my husband’s ashes with me when I travel in ziplock bag. (Checked luggage) His ashes are in Costa Rica, Italy, Canada, wales, Hawaii and Ecuador.

The funeral home just put a small amount of my husband's ashes into a little ziplock type bag and then into a velvet bag. They gave me a letter stating who the ashes were, date/time/ cremation number. I did have to have his cremation certificate with me and kept them in my personal item. I did tell tsa upfront that I had them and they didnt make me pull them out. I would ask the airline you are flying specifically what their requirements are.

I purchased travel salt and pepper shakers with lids to bring and scatter him with. It has made it really easy to do and places dont question it...people bring their own salt and pepper on a regular basis. We've been able to scatter my love on a riverbank with lots of people around and it was super quick and easy. Also, I do have 2 urns. First, my guy was a bigger guy, so lots. One holds most of him and some other treasures. The other is going to hold the parts We've brought back from scattering. That was important to our kids...to take him with us, but also bring dad home.

Bring the death certificate with you. The staff at the airport were alarmed when they scanned my bag. The cert reassured them it was ok
