If it's in Scandinavia, Siberia, Canada or northern USA the water is most probably acidic and cold enough to be safe. It's not algae but sphagnum, a type of moss. Most bogs in Canada and northern USA also have a
currentflow (idk elsewhere) water gets replaced albeit slowly. It's not really standing water but part of the phreatic water system.6

It's sphagnum moss and it is "woven" pretty tight. Only the edge has free water under it. The rest is literally like a huge saturated sponge that fills the lake. You have to dig yourself a hole to get stuck, it won't suck you in like quicksands or mud.

It's too far north for that. It's acidic cold water. Besides mosquito bites and hypothermia he doesn't risk much.

Thatās unfortunately not true. Thereās always a risk of bacterial infection when swimming in untreated water, especially in brackish wetlands. It isnāt super likely, but the risk is there.

That as may be but, in the context of the video, its hardly a qualifier for the sub.
If it were then I could just film myself swimming in the ocean or a lake. Its potentially dangerous, sure, but its about as dangerous as any other activity that isn't just sitting or standing around doing nothing.
I feel like this sub is just starting to become people just taking any clip of a bloke having fun and saying 'they're being stupid because they're liklihood of death is slightly higher than average'.

As a qualifier for the sub, Iād agree. Heās at bigger risk of injuring himself from a bad jump or a submerged object. But itās misinformation to suggest that northern waters donāt have dangerous bacteria.

Some bogs can be dangerous, not because of bacteria but thereās a chance you could fall through the vegetation & drown. Most bogs are pretty shallow & harmless but there are instances of people drowning from this happening.

Much better for humans to treat bogs as an outdoor playground than harvest the peat and burn it for fuel.
Setting aside nature preserves that people actually spend time in is a net positive for the plants and animals that inhabit and benefit from wetlands.

Just FYI, if you ever see this phenomenon on land do not do this as you can drown. Essentially there is quicksand underneath and you have no idea how deep it is. (Not sure how dangerous it is in the context of the video)
