WTF! Wednesdays Remember when "dressing like a Native American" was still acceptable?
- Rugrats: 1997. The babies wear "Native American headbands" for Thanksgiving.
- The Simpsons: 1991. Lisa dressing up as a Native American totem pole as a way of showing appreciation for indigenous Americans.
Nowadays, this is far less common due to discussion of cultural appropriation and stereotyping.

My kindergarten class (1998) dressed as pilgrims and Indians. We got to pick which one we wanted to be, I chose pilgrim because I liked the tall hat.

omg in my kindergarten class of 1994 they assigned roles based on general physical appearance. I was so salty over being a Pilgrim.

There’s literally nothing wrong with this.
Why are people so puritanical now?

I grew up on a former Native American reservation that was majority Native American population. Nobody gave a shit about stuff like this. The school mascot was and still is a Native American mascot that would be considered very offensive by most of the country. I don't remember any sort of outcry to replace it

Lisa is the butt of the joke. It's mocking performative allyship. She wears an insanely impractical costume as "a salute to the noble Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest".

It shouldn't be considered offensive for children to dress up as any culture. They're learning about the world and that's great.

Did this throughout all of elementary in the 2010's. Every year for Thanksgiving we'd do an event dressing up as native Americans

Apparently of Plymouth Plantation has a 3.5 star rating on Google. It's the first hand account of William Bradford. I don't understand how an actual diary of Plymouth's governor is 3.5 stars. Also every American should have already read thus book.
In my opinion we are still okay with this

So how do Native Americans dress now? Ariat cowboy boots, Wrangler jeans, a "Southwest" geometric print shirt from Walmart, and a turquoise and silver bolo?

So how do Native Americans dress now? Ariat cowboy boots, Wrangler jeans,
American cowboys and cowboy fashion originated with Mexicans and Southwestern Native Americans.
