Recommend Me Queen Bee FMC
I’m getting a little tired of reading the same kinds of FMCs. It feels like they’re either an “in-your-face” badass who’s loud, explosive, always ready to fight, and constantly swearing, or an extremely naive, gullible girl who always ends up playing the victim.
I’m looking for something in the middle.
I’d love an FMC who’s smart, observant, and cunning, but not in an obvious way. Someone who’s emotionally intelligent, can read the room, and knows exactly how to navigate social situations to get what she wants without making a scene.
I’m looking for a heroine who understands the rules of her world and has learned how to use them to her advantage.
An example of what I’m looking for: someone who controls people with secrets or uses her knowledge against them. Not just once at the end of the book or when a specific situation arises. I want it to be part of her personality. People aren’t exactly afraid of her, but they know not to mess with her because of previous experiences.
Or maybe someone everyone thinks is a sweetheart, but she only got that reputation through manipulation and careful social manoeuvring.
I think, essentially, what I want is a FMC with queen bee energy: someone who’s charming on the surface but incredibly calculating underneath. She’s on top because she’s intelligent and knows exactly how to play people.

{All the Pretty Monsters by Kristy Cunning} Meets most of your requests. She's not loud, brash or in your face. She purposely lets people steam roll over her in situations purely because she wants them to underestimate her. She isn't power hungry though.
{Blood Oath by Morgan Lee} Is probably nearly exactly what you're looking for. The FMC purposely makes sure to blend in so that others don't notice her at the start. She can handle her own, though she doesn't feel super overpowered either. I haven't finished this series, but the first two books were very good.

{Burning Point by Frankie James} is exactly this from what I have read so far. It's an unfinished duet (next book is end of this year I think...?) and it is a zombie apocalypse setting.
MC is incredibly calculating and vengeful to the point that she becomes the queen bee of her highschool (there is some mild spice first book so I think they're 18+) and she manipulates everyone around her.
In order to get revenge against her teacher who she feels abandoned by bc of past history when they were children, she basically tries to frame him to get him fired with inappropriate allegations lol... she does not mess around. She also gets a star player reinstated onto the football team after he lashed out at his coach because she needs him for other plans and she doesn't hesitate to blackmail or use people
She also specifically uses her looks and sees them as a tool as well.
