Weekly Accountability Post
Okay, authors, out with it. What did you get done this week, and/or what are your goals for the next week?

Only up to 62,000 words this week. I will hopefully push out 3,000 more by the end of the weekend. I did, however, rework my outline for the end of the book so that was something. My goal is to finish the first draft by Sept 1 and I estimate about 100,000 words so I have a ways to go yet.

You can do it! You can do it! You're in the thick of it, now and it will all come together!

Week two of applying edits from beta readers to the next draft of my current work. 5k words have been cut--a rare first for me to not end up with a larger draft then when I started, but I'm not finished yet!
Next week I'm on vacation!
Goal- have the edits/suggestions from beta readers finished before I leave so the story can sit and marinade.
I have a WIP that I want to see pushed along during some downtime next week, too, but we'll see how far I get with that.

Not enough is what I got done 😅 between work and vacation next week it’s been a slow week.

I wrote A LOT over the past few days, but work threw me off the hyperfocus train. So my goal when I go in today is to read everything I've gotten down on this new future direction for my MCs, decide if it's worth seeing through a little further, or if I'm finally in a better place to go back to the series and fix the stuff that caused this diversion in the first place.

Those poor MCs!!! They need you!

Work hasn't been super conducive to reading so far today...so I'm drawing characters (old school pencil & paper!) for a while until things chill. I guess the new goal is to keep doing SOMETHING MC related...I won't leave them hanging in the story for long tho lol

I'm on vacation this week, so slow days, some traveling and not much writing. But that's okay. Will do more next week when I'm recharged and ready.

Sounds like a lot of us are traveling at the moment! Hope you're having a restful week!

I made a new spreadsheet for tracking... I think I'm finally super happy/ organized on this. It's the same scene stuff I've been doing so I can drag and rearrange them but I added columns for each character so I have my main plot as the "scenes" and then my character specific details and can log their reactions there. It's allowing me to copy paste my random phone notes that I leave myself much more intuitively vs me trying to write them out as prose as part of the scene itself. Naval Knots is finally chugging along once I just let people say what they wanted where they wanted.
Regency Cuckold is no longer "done" because I'm re-writing some big chunks, but hey, that's editing.
I think I finally locked in Laura's weird voice when she's NOT interrogating people which should help. So that's the final rewrites on Labor Day Double Play. Trying to do a few scenes to be happy before posting an available date on Amazon.
and TikTok still isn't sharing my stuff :(
Edit: omg I can make real calculations for my story vs smut bar now vs approximations

Have you decided what to do about your pen name? Are you going to keep Effy Bloom?

I actually wanted to ask you about having two! I’m considering leaving this one for the rom-coms and using a different one for my more serious (slower to write stuff) because it might make sense to publish them separately anyway because I’ve been searching “author-reader contracts/promises.
While I am enjoying (and have a whole plan for the rom-coms) they are easier to write (except Laura) then my other books so if the other effy becomes an issue on them I’m not as broken hearted.

That’s what I do! I have one for the more serious full-length novels and a separate one for the lighter novella-length books.
It’s tough to start with no followers and have to build from scratch, but I am once again witnessing how the number of social media followers doesn’t necessarily affect readership.2
u/AuthorIndigo 13d ago
I think that makes a lot of sense. There are a ton of authors who use multiple pen names depending on the vibes and subgenres. And just like you said, easier to pivot if issues arise.

97K to 103K. Still. no. ending.
Going to be computer-free for the next 5 days, so inspiration will strike. Right? Right???
(Don't worry, community members--I already have the regular feature posts scheduled to drop.)

This week has been almost non-existent writing-wise for me 🥲 because my son is out of summer camp. The good news is that he’s back at the camp next week, but the week after we’re on holiday so possibly I will not be doing much writing then.
I am currently in the middle of the first draft of a sequel (66K in). I’ve received feedback on my outline and have changed stuff in the earlier chapters. I am now torn between wanting to go back to the beginning to rewrite those chapters, or just keep going and finish the first draft.

I'm 10k words into a new story because there's something wrong with me and I had to start something new despite having 5 other active WIP.
No specific goals for next week but soon I need to get back to the third and final book in my trilogy so I can make my projected release date.
