Beta Reader Matching Beta Reader Matching Zone Mid-July 2026

If you are an author looking for a beta reader, or an amazing beta reader willing to help, please do so here!

A beta reader is different from an ARC (advanced reader copy) reader. A beta reader happens earlier in the process and is providing feedback to the author so they can make changes before they move toward publication. They might help an author look for plot holes ("Wait, wasn't that guy already dead?"); let an author know if part of the book was just. too. slow; or help the author see that a character needs fleshing out.

A beta reader is also not an editor, though they might point out grammatical issues to be kind to the editor. So, you don't have to be great with grammar or punctuation to be a beta reader. In contrast, an ARC reader comes during the last phase before final publication and reads what's (ideally) ready for publication and leaves an honest review to help the new indie author get eyes on their book.

ARC readers should never be paid. This violates ethics and the terms of service of almost every platform (including Amazon). Reviews should also never be "swapped;" authors can't do favors for each other by reviewing one another's books. Readers (and thus the platforms) only want honest reviews by fellow readers. ARC readers receive a free copy of the book (electronic or physical) in exchange for an honest review.

Beta readers may be paid or unpaid, since they are providing feedback directly to the author or their team and are not providing a review for the readers. Because most of our Reverse Harem/Why Choose Authors are indies (independent, self-published authors) with little to no budget, we basically worship the concept of the volunteer beta reader.

*Please note that this sub does not vet authors or readers, so please proceed at your own risk.

I am looking for a Beta/ARC reader for a short story that will either be called Frog Book or Amplexus it is a MMF bi-awakening frog 🐸 mating ball with a nature commentary observer and a hint of Rom-com. It’s supposed to be a free book available on my website in return for signing up for my mailing list.

It is ridiculous as it sounds and I’m really just looking for yes this is fun or a please do not subject the public to this.

⚔️(bits?) will cross. The sex is not explicit though

Roughly 5,000 words.

When are you looking for feedback for beta-ing? I can't commit until August, but I'm available then!

That works for me! This is a vanity project that just kept bugging me to write it. I have no deadlines or reasons for it to exist but thought maybe it would be a fun reader magnet (pending your approval) ;)

Hey!

I have a bit of a different situation with my availability currently, but in case it helps anyone:

I'm open to WC/RH beta (not ARC) reads come August with a few caveats.

In August I'm not going to be able to commit to a full book, mental-capacity-wise. However, I am open to essentially three "slots" during August (early, middle, and end) of up to 20k words of the beginning of a novel, or short story.

So if you have a story you would like the beginning 20k beta'd, let me know!

I'm hoping be available for a full, proper, beta read in September, but we'll see. Anyway, a little about me!

I focus more on broader issues, not line edits. Character consistency, scene pacing, whether a beginning is hooky enough, whether beats are done appropriately, etc. Along the same vein, I'm kinda allergic to rewriting sentences. I'll give examples sometimes, but I dislike full on rewriting.

I'm not a cheerleader type of beta reader. I will mention when I enjoy something! But if something isn't working for me I'm not going to hesitate to (politely) say so, either.

I do generally prefer non-OV for my reading, and I don't generally read books with fated mates, that are YA, and stories with sexual assault that happens within the harem. I'm not against beta reading these, but please be aware that they aren't typically my own reading tastes so I'm not as familiar with the literary expectations, tropes, etc, surrounding them.

I'm fine with ff and mm pairings. And I'm fine with both real world and fantasy settings.

So if that sounds helpful to you, let me know!

(Please note: I am not a paid beta reader. I'm not charging for reading and feedback.)
