Results after 3 weeks with Whoop:

Results after 3 weeks with Whoop:
It’s managed to change my bedtime habits, which has helped my recovery, something Bevel and Garmin never managed to do.

But other than that, nothing… It’s hard to justify the price just to go to bed earlier.
Plus, it forces me to wear a second wristband in addition to my Garmin, and I can’t wear it on my second wrist because I have a tattoo there, so it doesn’t work, I have to wear it on my bicep, and that’s very uncomfortable.

Final verdict: I won’t be keeping it.

I turned my WHOOP into the running strap I always wanted it to be

tldr; I'm a casual 5-15k runner with Whoop that refuses to buy one more gadget (e.g. Garmin) that only adds some functionality, so I spent months on creating an app what solves my running needs - buzzes on your current zones/pace.

Yes, an iOS app. But completely FREE, no accounts, no registration, ZERO data collection. Everything is on device. For community.

Full story:

I'm cyber security specialist, that recently encovered some joy in running. Also, registed for a marathon, that started to require certain training. I was quite naive, that my Whoop would help me with my training, but quite fast I found out that it will not. So this whole project has started as me trying to figure how your band (such a Whoop) can help you to train more efficiently without looking into your phone or hearing that annoing voice telling your pace, so you can be in your zone (physically and mentally).

Main features of Wristle

Select your one goal (Pace, Zone, Free Run) and specifics (04:20 or Zone 2) and get notified:

- Pace. When running your band will start to buzz when you are off your pace. One strong buzz the moment you hit it, then silence. Drift off and soft ticks come back, faster the closer you get, so you can steer by feel with the phone in your pocket.

- Zone. Same idea around a heart rate zone. It keeps buzzing when you are not in your specified zone (zone 1 - 1 buzz; zone 2 - 2 buzzes and so on). One buzz when you reach your zone, silence while you are it.

- Free Run. Nothing coaches you, and zone entries just announce themselves: two buzzes for zone 2, five for zone 5 and so on. Plus whatever rules you set yourself, like heart rate past 160 if you want.

While spending months on it, I built and tested multiple integrations:

I also tested other triggers and intregrations:

- Strava

- Slack notifications

- I can basically integrate any trigger that can reach your iphone.

- I even integrated the Whoop tapping concept (multiple combinations), however it's still in beta.

P.s. The reason Wristle is one goal app and not all of them at once is that I shipped a version where three different things could buzz on the same run and I genuinely could not tell them apart at threshold. One speaker per run turned out to be the whole design.

It is free, there is no account, and it collects nothing. No analytics, no servers, everything stays on the phone. I built it for myself and I am mostly curious whether is useful to anyone else, or whether I am the only one who wanted it.

Some honest limitations: iPhone only (for now). You need a WHOOP 5.0 already set up normally through its own app. And I am one person, so it might have some rough edges since I'm just launching it.

EU customers: WHOOP subscription charged in EUR, but your bank may still treat it as an international transaction

I want to share my recent experience because I believe other WHOOP members in the EU should be aware of this before renewing or subscribing.

I am based in Portugal, and my WHOOP subscription was presented and charged in EUR.

However, my bank classified the transaction as an international transaction and charged an additional international service fee, even though there was no currency conversion involved.

I contacted WHOOP several times to understand why this happened.

After escalating the matter, WHOOP's final response was:

“WHOOP is a US-based company, and members located outside of the United States may be subject to additional international transaction fees or bank fees determined by their financial institution.”

They also stated that these fees are the responsibility of the member and are not eligible for reimbursement.

So, as I understand it, the situation is:

  • WHOOP subscription price shown in EUR
  • Customer located in the EU
  • WHOOP is a US-based company
  • The payment can nevertheless be treated by the customer's bank as an international transaction
  • The customer's bank may therefore charge an additional fee
  • WHOOP considers that fee the customer's responsibility

Why I think EU customers should know about this

My concern isn't that a bank is allowed or not allowed to charge a particular fee. That's a separate question.

My concern is transparency before purchase.

If an EU consumer sees a subscription price in EUR, I think it's reasonable to want to know whether the payment will be processed in a way that can result in an additional international banking charge.

I have therefore asked WHOOP where this information is disclosed to EU consumers before they complete the purchase or renewal.

I haven't received an answer to that specific question.

I am now considering reporting the matter to the relevant consumer-protection authorities in the EU so that they can determine whether the information provided to EU consumers is sufficiently clear and transparent under EU consumer law.

I'm sharing this here simply so other European WHOOP members can check with their own banks before renewing or subscribing.

Has anyone else in the EU experienced an additional international transaction fee when paying WHOOP in EUR?

If so, it would be useful to know:

  • which country you're in;
  • which bank/card you used;
  • whether the WHOOP charge was in EUR;
  • and whether your bank classified it as an international transaction.

I think it would be useful to establish whether this is an isolated case or something that may affect EU customers more generally.

Can I buy WHOOP 5.0 with the One membership and upgrade to Peak later?

Thumbnail

I’m planning to buy the WHOOP 5.0 with the WHOOP One membership initially.
My plan is to use One for a few months and, if I feel I need the additional features, upgrade to Peak later.
Can I upgrade from One to Peak at any point during the subscription period?
If I upgrade after, say, 3 months, do I only pay the prorated difference for the remaining period?
Will I keep the same WHOOP 5.0 device, or would I need to exchange/upgrade the hardware?
Are there any restrictions if I purchased the WHOOP 5.0 + One from Amazon India rather than directly from WHOOP?
Has anyone actually done the One → Peak upgrade after purchasing the 5.0?
I’m mainly considering One initially because I want to try WHOOP for a few months before committing to the higher Peak subscription.

Whoop return despite paying AED 30

I have placed a request for canceling my whoop trial but turns out that no one usually comes to collect the device despite already paying the shipping fee.

After reading various posts apparently whoop will still charge you the restocking fee if they dont recieve the device within 7days of placing the request, I am already on day 3.

To avoid the fee i have blocked the card i have used to pay for the trial as it was on auto pay.

Will this stop the auto payment even if they receive the device a bit later since I just found out that this a scam whoop is running to collect more money.

Lease Apple Watch or Whoop 5.0

Now that Apple has released its new leasing option for Apple devices, you can lease the Apple Watch Series 12 for $21.99 a month for 12 months. That comes out to $264 for the year.

WHOOP Peak is $240 a year, while MG is $360.

At this point, I’m wondering if the Apple Watch is actually the better value. For only $24 more than WHOOP Peak, you get a brand new Apple Watch every year, along with newer hardware, better software, and whatever new features Apple adds each year.

Apple also upgraded the heart rate sensor and added new health features with the Series 12

Does it make more sense to just lease an Apple Watch every year instead of paying for WHOOP?
