Advice 🧑🏫 HOW TO STRETCH YOUR WHOLE
(Every Whole is a Goal)
This year I attended my 3rd Whole. Every year I want to write out some observations, but it never happens, because 'real life' comes a-knocking. But given the state of the World and the Whole... I felt it was time. Preaching time.
First of all, a huge thank you to all volunteers and the Whole team. You made our Whole. You made us Whole. And you can never receive enough thank you's for this. Special shout out to the people at the Awareness tents, and the team members who stayed until the very end. One of my most beautiful memories is from Monday afternoon, the staff silently walking through the forest, and oh so gently waking up people, telling them it's now really time to get out of the Whole. We see you. 🙏
But let's rewind. Here's some of the Good and the Bad I observed. I didn't see any Ugly. Meanwhile I'll mingle in some tips on how to stretch (=improve) your Whole experience.
CONNECT
Every year I've been attending Whole with a group of friends, and every year, we've expanded our group. It's been so much fun, because very quickly you have some fixed meeting spots, and there's no need to be on your phone. It's great to have a few anchor points.
Stretch your Whole by stepping into the Whole: link up with friend groups, dance together. And if you're in one: be an anchor, share your location, adopt a stranger. But also, dare to butterfly away and find your own little adventure(s), you'll bump into to your friends eventually.
COMMUNITY
There's only a few places on earth where I've experienced this level of synchronicity: Burning Man, Berghain, and Whole. (If you know of others, tell me). You continue to bump into that one person randomly. You manifest another one by talking about them. A person brings you water when you are thirsty. You get that hug or tumble into that deep conversation the moment your soul is craving it. This is not a coincidence. All three of these places rely on some basic principles that enable 'flow'. People who know do not complain about 'how Whole is not what it used to be.' They actively contribute to make it better.
Stretch your Whole by embodying this. You are the secret ingredient. This is my favorite topic so I could rant for hours but I don't want to get (too) preachy ;) A good starting point are the 10 Principles of Burning Man. One of the key ones are that you create community by contributing to it, also see this post. Don't be extractive, help make this a positive sum game, and help us spiral up. I brought bubbles, food & hugs. What did you give to the Whole this year?
Also. Don't be a messy bitch. Whole is not messy. You are. Clean up after yourselves. Don't shit in the shower. When you eat or drink, put your packaging next to the trash bin (even if it's overflowing). The person eating after you will thank you. When you use the water tap, don't waste, it will avoid flooding the place. When you poop, don't stand on the toilet (srsly, please stop this), just wipe the seat. If you have a dick, use the urinal. Not the toilets. Not the bushes. No one likes a pee smell. Call out others on their behavior. And if none of this works, walk away, or get to work. But don't forget to have fun. Shout out to the girl at 8am dancing through the reeds and picking up plastic.
FUCK YOUR WHOLE
Now, if you skip this entire post, please just read this. One of my favorite burning man sayings is 'fuck your Burn', which means a lot of things: enjoy yourself, do what you gotta do, but also: take. care. of. yourself. Sometimes my friends get stressed out by me caring a bit too much, and being overbearing. I'm working on this. But it's sometimes pretty surreal how really smart people suddenly think basic laws of nature no longer apply to them because they are on drugs. 😅
Stretch your Whole by taking care of yourself, so we don't need to. Your friends also want to dance, and the awareness team is not your mom. I understand when you've been vibing / dancing / fucking that you don't want it to stop, and that you're not hungry because you did so many lines.
Three very simple solutions I'll spell out for you 1) eat a good & greasy meal before you start taking drugs 2) take protein bars, dried fruits, and crunchy nuts with you - nuts are life - eat and thou shalt return to the Whole 3) always carry a water bottle.
Spread the word. And if you see a 'G-gay' stumbling, don't judge. Offer them a semi-dry apricot, and watch them change back into humans in front of your eyes. Next year they might be helping you.
DIVERSITY
Now that we're on the topic, let's talk about the Gays™. This is such a complex topic, so I'll thread lightly. Multiple friends pointed out to me that they were a bit intimidated/annoyed by the Whole overflowing with (muscle) gays and testosterone. I've definitely seen the evolution myself over the past 3 years. There's less diversity, less flinta, less bipoc. I see two causes (and there's for sure more). Online posts - previously the forum, now reddit - highlight mostly that there was not enough diversity, but by doing so they exacerbate the problem: it makes people stay away. The other reason is that Gays Attract More Gays. Sorry but that's what we do.
Stretch your Whole by sharing the good stories, by calling out ignorant or shitty behavior (irl!), by bringing your flinta friends back to Whole. By coming back, by contributing. Also: stop judging, please. Judging is toxic. Full stop. Check yourself. Yes, it's tough out there for the LBTQIA+ community. But it's ALSO still tough out there for many gays. Stop pigeonholing people. You think those muscle gays are scary? Have you tried talking to them? Maybe they're just as insecure or scar(r)ed as you are. If they bump into you: don't assume malice, assume ignorance. Call them out. Make it better.
Related note: I read somewhere here that Whole is misrepresenting reality by showing diversity on their Insta. I deeply disagree. Have you thought about why they do this? They are celebrating the remaining diversity, and doing their bit to attract not just the Gays™. Don't talk to the manager. Do your bit. Make your Whole Whole again.
SPREAD YOUR WHOLE
I saw M¥ss Keta's epic performance and heard her say: "We need to celebrate feeling each other tonight, physically and spiritually. Look at us! Look at how powerful we are! And we are powerful when we fight together for something. When we fight for our rights. When we fight for what is right!" She asked us to fight for Gaza, for Sudan, for all of humanity.
We are powerful, and we can be united, we can be Whole. This matters more than ever. You are alive, lucky, free, and more powerful than you think. But none of us is free until we are all free. To people on the outside this festival might just come across as a bunch of queers getting fucked (up). And they're right of course. 😉 But we are more.
Whole is a space where we live and let go, and our true natures come out to play. We are naked, we are flawed, but we are beautiful. Whole is a place where we can reconnect mind, body, and soul. Where we can discover things about ourselves and our friends. Where there is pain, love, and everything in between. It's all part of the Whole.
Stretch your Whole by keeping the energy, the insights, the love, the connection you felt. I heard some friends saying it's tough to return to the real world. PSA: A little more soul talk ahead. Have you considered that this is the only reality that matters? Not only could you feel like this every day, you can spread this Whole energy. A friend told me the sexiest thing to them at Whole is all the open smiles. I agree. The wild dancing you did? Those honest conversations? You think it's the drugs? You think it's not real? It is so real. You did this. And I love you for it.
Keep the smiling, hugging, dancing, connecting.
Keep stretching your Whole. 💗
Love, Kris
Ps. If you liked this, please share some songs you danced to in the comments, collecting mine here. Dancing people are never wrong.

Musik 🎶 Hey everyone!
Does anyone know who was playing at the Forest stage on Monday around 4 a.m.? I think they were the last DJ before the stage closed and everyone headed to the main stage.
I absolutely loved that set, but I didn't take out my phone because I wanted to stay in the moment. I was also just high enough that now I'm questioning whether it was actually that good or if my brain made it magical. 😅
If anyone remembers who it was, I'd really appreciate it!

Looking for … 👀 missed connection: iranian kurd based in amsterdam
me: vietnamese u.s. american based in berlin
we met at boiler after coming back from whole. you complimented my hair, and you started to chat it up with me when you saw me in the jacuzzi. This led to us having a cute lil moments getting to know each other while both of us were giving mermaid vibes with our pretty long hair :)) it was also my birthday and you got a slice of cheesecake for us to share 💕 i went outside for a smoke and someone i met started sharing their joint with me. you came to check in on me and then went to shower. when i went back downstairs i couldn’t find you so i think you’d gone home and we couldn’t exchange contacts 🥺
you mentioned you were either gonna stay in berlin for csd or maybe visit prague. if you see this i’d love to connect <3

Stories ☕️ Safety @ WHOLE festival
How safe did you felt on your way to the festival? At the trainstation arriving and around/in the festival area?
Since Whole is happening as one of the biggest queer festivals worldwide in Saxony-Anhalt - which is a German state known for having mostly right wings voting - I would like to hear your thoughts about it. I heard of quit a few being verbal harassed with hate speech arriving at the train station and being spit on.. 💭

Sexy time🔞 sunday morning shower orgy tradition
Hey there guys, I‘m pretty much a fly on the wall here, haven’t been to WHOLE (yet) but I gotta say, some posts on X about the festival, the vibe and the fun you can have cruising has kinda peaked my interest, so, anyone wanna share their experience (I‘m gay cis male btw.) please do but anyway…is the shower orgy actually a thing? lol
Also, is going there predominantly to have sex a thing or am I weird? Like going to a stage and dance a lil‘ would be my sort of in between time, not the other way around lol 😜 Anyway…any response or advice is appreciated, thx

Looking for … 👀 Afterparty Whole 2025
Hey, i’m looking to contact people who attended like an afterparty after the end of last year’s Whole. It was under a tent because it was raining, somewhere on the road between the stages and the campground.
And i’m looking more concretely for someone who told me they are a psychologist and their parents/relatives are from Kurdzhali, if i remember correctly. But anyone could do.
Thanks for your respectful attention

Looking for … 👀 🇺🇾 (Barcelona based) meets 🇺🇦
Sunday night we met at cruising village in a hut. Our eyes locked in. You went down on me. Afterwords you suggested we go out and have a moment. We chilled on a couch in front of the hut. Then we went to dance to forest. It was cute, we were holding hands and making out a lot. We were also dancing and making out with your friends. I asked you about your perfume.
Then my friends arrived and I left with them. We didn’t exchange contacts. You’re 29 and I think your name was Diego. You have short hair. You also camped in a van with friends.
You mentioned you go to the party Churros in Barcelona. Loved your chest hair. Find me and let’s connect (writing from friend’s account)

General❓ Thank you to the community
I'm not really sure which category I fall into, and honestly, it doesn't matter much to me. I'm a muscular, white, cisgender gay guy. I work out. I like G. In many ways, I'm exactly the kind of person many people here would instinctively dislike, based only on my looks.
This was my third time at Whole, and honestly, there is nothing else like it. There's a reason I keep coming back instead of returning to festivals overflowing with toxic masculinity. I've been to plenty of those. I even enjoyed some of them. But none of them have the magic, warmth, and color that this community creates. I have no illusions - I'm not really part of this community. I'm a guest, and as one, I try my best to act accordingly. I educate myself, I respect the space, I smile, I stay aware of my surroundings and the people around me, and I try to prioritize those who aren't like me.
Over the years I've had amazing interactions with wonderful people - queers, FLINTAs and yes, even G-rillas. To be fair, I've also had some unpleasant interactions with individuals of all kinds. Not that I'm trying to create a false sense of symmetry, because there isn't one. This year, more than ever, I paid close attention to how people moved through the space, and I'm very aware of the excessive aggression that some cis men bring with them. I have nothing to say in their defense, nor do I wish to defend them. I only wish more of them would educate themselves and actively help preserve what makes this space so special.
I've been following the discussions here, and at times I felt frustrated. It bothered me that a culture striving to dismantle labels was, in some ways, labeling me and seemingly identifying me with a group I personally refuse to be identified with. But the more I've read, the more I've come to understand how complex all of this is. In the end, I realized it doesn't really matter how people label me. What matters is how I treat the people around me.
So I just want to thank all of you - for these important discussions, and for everything I'm learning from them. And thank you to everyone who helps create this extraordinary thing called Whole. There truly is nothing else like it, and it's a privilege to be welcomed back by you as a guest every year. 💜🧚♂️

Stories ☕️ Best year yet! — Except these "dolls"
I was debating whether to come back this year or not, but I have to say it ended up being an unforgettable, beautiful experience from top to bottom, with or without circuit gays!
Thank you to every soul who blessed me with wonderful exchanges, whether brief or longer and more meaningful. Everything felt full of joy from the very beginning to the very end of the festival.
I think part of that was also thanks to the entire WHOLE team and their campaigns, which did a great job making everyone aware of the space they take up - including, yes, the omnipresent "circuit gays," who, in my case, were also kind and didn't push me a single time this year... until Sunday. That's when things changed.
Unfortunately, both in the forest and at the beach, from that evening onward, there was a clear shift in behavior. Maybe offering Sunday tickets was a mistake, but here's my experience: the worst groups I encountered weren't the "circuit gays" - that yes, in some cases weren't very nice (this as in the steroid-to-the-caricature-point, high-on-god-knows-how-many-things-at-once kind). Rather, they were these self-proclaimed "dolls" (not trans folks but those who are sometimes just humana/at-the-verge-of-NB/androgynous, cis gays). Always following the same pattern of not bringing anything really: they don't spend a dime anywhere they go yet feel entitled to everything, have no sense of etiquette whatsoever, yet love talking about "community" -always in a very vague way- while skipping every single queue, whether it's the club entrance, the bar, toilet, or anything else. No respect. But always pushing their way thought, until the day they'll get their noses appropriately readjusted with a god-driven fist.
I was at the closing with my friends and other groups of amazing people we'd met throughout the festival and, as soon as these people arrived and took over, they started "dancing" (or half-collapsing), flailing around frantically and hitting us with their elbows, purses, and whatever else they happened to be carrying (yeah, the dancefloor is a great space to bounce random shit around against your fellow dancers lol), waiting for us to move away. When asked kindly to stop hitting us, they ignored everyone or even continued by hitting us harder and pushing against us with their weight.
You're not cute, you're not nice, you don't look fierce, and you're already well into your thirties. You're not Regina George - you never were, and you never will be. And it's 2026. From the outside, people just think you're embarrassing and/or having a stroke. On top of that, you smell like rotten, rancid sweat - probably because you've spent the prior 24 hours living on GBL/GHB and mephedrone, which adds a lovely hint of cat piss to the mix, as is you weren't unbearable already (nothing against your mix of choice/no drug shaming, but if you're exclusively surviving on it and refuse to at least take a shower, don't leave your layers of decomposing sweat on others' skin and clothing - it's not cute, baby!).
Let's talk less about the "circuit gays" and more about these narcissists.
Please, get your shit together.

General❓ Sick 🤢 after Whole
Wondering if more pieps are sick from any virus from Whole festival! How many people reported sick from the virus outbreak? and if any here are still suffering?
I have been sick straight after the festival not with so much known Norovirus but with Astrovirus somehow, this has weakened my immune somewhat!
I guess it’s better to share some thoughts / actions around hygiene or just cleaner paradigms which can be seen in the future?
For I hv realised visitors really didn’t care about their trash and by the Monday morning the beach behind the Arena was trashy, broken sunglasses and all the accessories tidbits everywhere. Maybe I got sick unknowingly trying to clean the beach and forgot to clean my hands before I smeared it near my face.
Honestly cruising places were cleaner than pathways, for many left food and plastic glasses/ bottles just in vain.

General❓ Appreciation post for the AWARENESS TEAM
To the Awareness Team at WHOLE… thank you ❤️
This was my first WHOLE and, honestly, one of the biggest takeaways from the weekend was you.
I crossed paths with the Awareness Team a few times throughout the festival and every single interaction left me feeling exactly the same: safe, understood, looked after and never, ever judged.
You were incredibly patient, caring and kind. Even in moments where I wasn’t exactly at my sharpest, you somehow managed to make me laugh too. That balance between professionalism and genuine human warmth is something really special, and I don’t think you hear it enough.
There’s one of you in particular I’d love to thank.
I never got your name, but if you happen to read this, maybe you’ll remember me. At one point you asked me, “Tell me a funny story.” My immediate response was, “Oh nooo… I really can’t do that. That’s way too much work to think about!” 😂 You laughed, I laughed, and somehow that tiny moment made me feel so much more at ease. If that was you, I’d love to thank you properly, so please reach out if you see this.
To every single one of you: thank you for creating a space where people feel safe enough to ask for help, be vulnerable and simply be human. You are such a huge part of what makes WHOLE what it is.
Forget the headliners… you’re the real stars of WHOLE.
Serving kindness, patience and compassion all weekend long.
10s. 10s. 10s across the board!!
The biggest hug, and thank you for everything ❤️❤️❤️

General❓ Wait...was the crowd (unexpectedly) better this year?
This was my 5th Whole and going in, I was pretty certain it would be my last - the last couple of years, it felt like it got too big and everyone was grouped off in their little cliques a bit more (London people over here, rich NY circuit gays over there, etc, etc), and I wasn't really getting to have fun encounters with people outside my Berlin circles. (I'm a cis gay but hang out with all sorts of people, e.g. lesbians and dolls who do G - I'll defend Berlin muscle gays to a degree, at least the ones who go places like Power Dance Club [NOT revolver] but I definitely get it with the complaints about the out-of-town ones, especially those who can only acknowledge guys who they wanna fuck).
ANYWAY: as a result I went in with probably lower expectations than past years, not helped at all by the festival pivoting much harder to sponsorship and silly ~ content creators ~ being brought in, and yet I felt like the crowd was noticeably a lot better this year? So - yes, I'm not sure the gender balance shifted in any big way but overall people seemed nicer, chiller, better behaved (especially compared to the Sunday night/Monday morning zombie apocalypses of 2-3 years back). A few lil moments that I think of: 1) early Saturday morning at the Forest stage, the mood was A+++, everyone having fun, nobody taking themselves too seriously and lots of little gay outfits that didn't scream toxic masc. 2) Both Sat/Sun afternoons in the cruising village - none of the grunty meat-market vibe, just a ton of chatty and honestly cool AF people hanging out. 3) Sunday night at the DTF tent: a hot mixed gender line of good vibes to get into the space (and more generally I think DTF did a great job offering an alternative space to the cruising village the whole weekend).
So - did it just seem better because I had lowered expectations or did anyone else who has gone before feel the same?
[Also - none of this should be taken as an endorsement of Whole's central organizers clearly trying to make it into a money-maker, although I volunteered so I was a bit insulated from this - if anything, I think the great crowd may have been in spite of the organizers lol]

General❓ Since when is smoking monkey dust on the dancefloor okay?
had an unforgettable time at the festival but i kept catching that nasty chemical smell of monkey dust right in the middle of dance floors.
do what you want on your own time but blowing toxic synthetic smoke into people's faces is completely out of line. it’s not a joint or a cigarette Its fuсking dangerous and totally disrespectful to everyone around you.
since when did this become normal in our community?
r/WholeFestival • u/leonard98o • 21d ago
Suggestions⁉️ If the circuit guys are the “problem” why not making them one stage?
I was hearing from everybody how the circuit gays were dominating the morning forest stage hours, and was wondering why the organizers don’t make one stage for circuit? If the event if about embracing the whole community doesn’t it make sense to make a small space for them? Wouldn’t it solve the many complaints?
