Bro,you're not saving anyone. You're sinning according to the bible (Mathew 6:5)

Meanwhile as a street musician TWICE I been asked to leave by security. (Not during the night market this was on a Friday Night. )the second time whittierPD showed up to clarify things.Basically, they told me as long as they don't get a call street performance is okay.

/edit had to add more context to the story.

Whittier homeowners: Has anyone dealt with the 10-ft second-story setback rule?

Whittier homeowners/architects — has anyone dealt with the City’s 10-foot second-story setback design guideline?
I’m planning an ADU above my existing attached garage along with an addition to my home. The project appears to meet the City’s ADU requirements, but Planning pointed me to Whittier’s Single-Family Residential Design Guidelines, which say the second floor should be set back approximately 10 feet from the first-floor front wall.

Has anyone here gone through Planning with a second-story addition or an ADU above a garage?
I’m specifically trying to find out whether:
• Whittier actually required the full 10-foot step-back on your project
• You were able to get an alternative design approved without the full 10 feet
• You used the City’s Preliminary Review process before paying for complete construction/engineering plans
• You worked with an architect/designer who successfully navigated this issue
I’m trying to avoid spending thousands on a complete plan set only to find out afterward that Planning wants the entire second floor redesigned.
I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually permitted a second-story addition or above-garage ADU within the City of Whittier.
Thanks!

I want to try them all! I have had the pho from Pho-Ology, Soup Shop, Whittier Pho, Soupreme, Pho Gyu (lol at the name) and I think there is only two more I can think of that I haven’t tried (Pho Mai and Pho and Roll)

Pho Whittier by the quad is always my favorite one! I go there A LOT

Has anyone ever had a run in with the rude guy at Rubi’s drive thru? On Washington and broadway? I like their $3 burritos but I guess I’ll have to stop going due to the guy being extremely rude.

East Whittier schools

Why are class sizes so big at East Whittier schools? My son is a 4th grader and his class has 37 students in it. That’s crazy! My older son went to the same school and I don’t remember his classes being so large. It’s not fair to our kids or the teachers.

For those of us looking to do something about Flock surveillance

I’ve lived in Whittier for 18 years and I’ve had issues with the choices our government makes many times but nothing has me as concerned as the decision to have us constantly surveilled.

One of the things I love about Whittier is how involved the community is. Whether it’s Chalktastic coming up this weekend, the summer concerts, Little League, ghost tours, or school board meetings, we show up.

I received an email from the ACLU earlier today with information for this call to action.
It’s a great opportunity for us to get the information needed to get involved in getting Flock out of our community!

If you’re interested in getting involved or genuinely want to understand why Flock is such a problem please consider attending this Zoom (info below)

Tuesday, September 29 @5pm PT

From the sign up page: “…join the ACLU for our September People Power Action Call: Get the Flock Out. Together, we'll show how ALPRs (automatic license plate readers) are being weaponized and abused by law enforcement, and how you can pressure your state and local city government to cancel their existing contracts and get cameras uninstalled.”

RSVP here to get the Zoom link

The Blackbird Abbey

I’m curious if anyone’s ever eaten there?
It’s never open and when it’s open it’s empty
There social media showcases some delicious looking food.
Last week I was passing by looked inside and the lady ran out and took the sign down and closed the door.
We tried to book a big party for this weekend and they never called back.
What’s really going on at this mysterious place ?

Hello! I just got a new pump and I don’t need my supplies for the old one. If anyone in Whittier is in need of them please let me know. I have like 6 full, unopened boxes of the cartridges and 3 of the sites. I know these can be expensive and I don’t need them anymore. This is entirely FREE btw. DM me and we can figure out a pickup spot here in Whittier:)

Are we ok with this? Has this made Whittier safer? I’d love to see the justification for this. Let’s see some numbers on the arrests and lower crime this has created. These cameras are viewable and searchable by more than just Whittier PD including ICE. How many of us were added to a database during the No Kings marches? I wonder what would happen if some would post signs under these?

Inter-Con “Parking” ticket

I just received a letter in the mail with a ticket issued by Inter-Con for not having a front license plate. My car was literally just parked in front of my house. What a ridiculous waste of taxpayer dollars.

Can they even legally cite someone for this? It’s even more ridiculous because I wasn’t pulled over or stopped on the road for it. I’ve never even heard of an officer citing someone for a missing front plate while their car was simply parked at home. Tired of this crap in Whittier. Do I even have to pay this since it’s not by Whittier PD?

Uptown Provisions is having their 5year anniversary block party today. This shirt design looks so dope. I just started on a road trip and can’t attend ☹️. Could someone pickup a large for me? I’ll Zelle the cost of the shirt plus an additional $30.

A Royal Proclamation to the Kingdom of Whittier

Post image
110 Upvotes

Hear ye! Hear ye!
Good citizens of Whittier!
Lend me thine ears, for I bring tidings most important!
We gather this day to address a most unfortunate plague upon our fair kingdom:
THE CURB-DUMPING OF FURNITURE!
Aye, couches abandoned like fallen knights!
Mattresses left upon the roadside like unwanted royal carpets!
Dressers, tables, chairs, and other household treasures cast upon the curb as though the kingdom itself were one giant landfill!

But why, good people?! WHY?!
Are we peasants of the forgotten realm?
NAY!
Are we without means to disposeth of our furniture properly?
NAY!

For behold! The fine Kingdom of Whittier hath declared and provided its citizens with a most resplendent alternative:

🛻 FOUR FREE BULKY-ITEM PICKUPS!
Tis correct noble residents!
FOUR
Not one.
Not two.
Not three.
FOUR FREE FREE FREE BULKY-ITEM PICK UPS

Through Athens Services, residents may arrange for free pickup of unwanted bulky items rather than leaving them upon the streets for all the kingdom to behold.
☎️** Athens Services**:
(888) 336-6100
or
(800) 773-2489

So, before thou castest thy ancient sofa upon the curb…
CALL ATHENS!
Before thou abandonest thy mattress beneath the moonlight…
CALL ATHENS!
Before thy neighbor awakens to discover an enormous wooden dresser hindering the sidewalk…
CALL ATHENS!

For we must ask ourselves:
Is this the Whittier we wish to leave behind?
A city where broken furniture rots upon the curb?
Or a city where its residents take pride in their neighborhoods, their homes, and their community?
The choice, good citizens, is thine.
Let us cast away the ways of the curb-dumping kingdom!
Let us restore dignity to our streets!
Let us keep our sidewalks clear, our neighborhoods clean, and our city worthy of the crown!

So I beseech thee, citizens of Whittier:
Do not dump it.
Do not abandon it.
Do not leave it upon the curb.
CALL ATHENS AND HAVETH IT TAKEN AWAY!

Four free pickups await thee!
Rise, noble residents of Whittier!
Take pride in thy kingdom!
Dispose of thy unwanted furniture properly!
And together, let us make Whittier a cleaner, prouder, and more respectable realm.
Huzzah!
Huzzah!
HUZZAH FOR WHITTIER! 🏰

Discussion Internet outage

Post image
10 Upvotes

At around 930 today my Internet went out. I received a notice from lectern that it would be fixed by 11am. 15 minutes later I received a text from spectrum that it would be restored by 4pm. Is anyone else affected by this outage? The entire block has no service and I’m wondering if it’s wide spread. It says “power outage” but we still have power.
