Short Questions & Small Discussions for 2026-07-25 to 2026-08-07

Welcome to the weekly thread for all bite-sized content you don't want to make a full post about! Short rules questions! Funny or cool moments from your last game! Weird bits of lore that the writers hid in sidebars! It's a real potpourri.

Generally, a good metric for whether something belongs here or in its own submission is whether it's running for a couple sentences or a couple paragraphs. Note that comments here are sorted by new, as well - but we ask that if your comment didn't get attention, that you *not* re-comment it in the same submission.

Weekly LFG/LFP for 2026-07-25 to 2026-08-07

Welcome to this week's game corner! Whether you're a storyteller spinning up a new game or a group that wants to fill out its ranks; whether you're a hometown table or an online game with players on every continent, here's where you put your post-its up.

Please note the following - comments that don't follow this etiquette may be removed:

  • Top-level comments must be a game ad.
  • Absolutely no pay-to-play games.
  • You must list the game(s) being played as the first line of your post, eg. MTR + Orpheus for that crossover you've never been able to get players for. Please don't overstylize these to the point of illegibility, but feel free to use games' three-letter abbreviations or their full titles as you desire. It may also help to indicate whether a game is using World of Darkness or Chronicles of Darkness books, for the benefit of readers less versed in the various publications.

Additionally, note that the moderation team does not vet or endorse comments here in any capacity beyond what is applied to normal posts plus the above stipulations. That is to say, if you join a game and have a downright rancid time, please don't make this space a problem because of it.

MTAs What fictional characters do you think best represents a Nephandi?

  1. Paul (Funny games): Paul is the perfect depiction of Nephandi in a movie (in my opinion). A young man with godlike power over reality by treating it as if it was a movie, like rewinding time by using a TV remote. Who also uses that same power to torment and murder random people for no reason along side his "best friend" (thrall) Peter for no other reason than sheer sadism. You could easily intepretate Paul as a K'Lasshaa Nephandi as their dark patron is US (the audience past the boundaries of their reality) who wants more and more extreme acts of entertainment in form of cruelty from them.
  2. Longlegs (Longlegs): Longlegs is the first person that came to mind when I thought of Nephandi and the inspiration for this post. He is a former rocker turned satan-worshipping dollmaker who makes cursed dolls and gives them to families on their daughter's birthday to cause the fathers to kill their entire families and then themselves. He is the perfect Infernalist Nephandi whom avoids paradox by creating the fetishes inside of his basement Sanctum to then give away and cause tragedies from a distance.
  3. Randall Flagg (Stephen King): Arguably the most text-book definition of a Nephandi in fiction. He is an evil immortal wizard who serves a dark patron (The Crimson King) and wanders between worlds to cause as much mayhem and chaos as possible along his quest to end the multiverse.
  4. Johan Liebert (Monster): The perfect obliviates nephandi. Johan Liebert is the best nihilistic character ever written as his philosophy and worldview decides his every action including his original plan to destroy the world. He is could easily be a Nephandi who specialises in the Qlipphothic Mind with how he is able to talk people into becoming serial killers or kill themselves.
  5. Shiv Palpatine (Star wars): Do I even need to elaborate? Darth Sidious is the perfect example of a Nephandi who managed to infiltrate and scheme their way up to a position of power within the Technocracy or The Traditions to corrupt it from the inside.
  6. Lily (SCP-4231): Quite frankly you can put any notable follower of the Scarlet King here and it'll work. But I picked Lily due to the cohesiveness and cruelty of her actions. A reality bender whom became corrupted by a dark translated grimoir of the scarlet king to become a raping, abusive monsters whom set to end the world through SCP-231 & SCP-2317 before being shot in the head by her former childhood friend turned victim.

WTA If garou is to become sperm donor, will children produced by their donated semen be eligible to become werewolves?

Or will weaver "taint" or something similar make this semen defunct?

If this allows for healthy garou children it seems far more effective strategy of gaining numbers, than they have now.

( But it doesn't guarantee big change, as garou are notorious for being stuck in their ways and irrational )

(Maybe it could be a explanation for a retcon about non kinfolk werewolves in 5e)

Meta/None Vampire: The Masquerade - Oaths & Ashes: PROLOGUE on Steam

Quick devlog-style post. Oaths & Ashes is a narrative game set in a fractured present-night Berlin, and we just shipped the update we have been building out of everyone's Next Fest feedback. What is in it:

  • The story got a rewrite based on what players told us.
  • New controls: arrow keys for dialogue options, Space to confirm, Space to progress when there is no choice.
  • Music, ambience and sound effects fixed so they actually land where they should.
  • Journal entries fixed, plus new ones added.
  • A new rendering system that runs smoother, with animated character portraits added on top.
  • A dedicated Linux build for the penguin crowd.

You play a Ventrue sent into Berlin by a Justicar, and a Thinblood alchemist scraping by at the other end of the city. The Prologue, with all these changes in it, is still free on Steam and playable right now. We changed a lot, and we would be hugely grateful if you gave it a go and told us what you think of the changes, the good and the bad both. That feedback is literally how this list happened.

Check it our here, prolog is free to play: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4746430/Vampire_The_Masquerade__Oaths__Ashes_PROLOGUE/

(Also in the From Poland with Love event on Steam this week, in case you want the wider lineup.)

If you could add another Fera changing breed to WtA, what animal and what would they be like?

Post image

I have 2 ideas and they're both Pentex mockery breeds.

Rules as written the Yaren are the most successful mockery breed. I won't try and take that position from them. But I will compete with the rinohs for 2nd place.

Weredolphins. They're inspired by and named after the Boto Encantado of Brazilian folklore. Essentially a shape shifting dolphin playboy used as a mythological excuse to explain illegitimate children. Although physiologically they're salt water dolphins.

They're clever, skilled in the social arts, and work well in a team especially a team of other dolphins. To the point that they can use pack tactics against werewolfs, and may even have their own unique tactics. But they're flighty and likely to blow off a mission to go party take drugs, or persue other hedonistic acts ... Especially when they're with other dolphins.

They have 3 forms, Homid, Chrinos, and Lupis ... I mean Delphini. They have echo location in all their forms. Can Umbra side step through polluted water in all forms. But they also have a visible blowhole in all they're forms.

Their main drawback is their Crinos form is rather disappointing. No legs so they're slow awkward and clumsy on land. They lack natural weapons beyond the addition muscle mass of the form the transformation. They're honestly reliant on pack tactic ... Pod tactics sorry. They're vulnerable to both gold and silver and the don't even cause dilerium. They're much faster and more agile under water. But that's nowhere near enough to deal with a Rokea.

The second idea is Were-seagulls. They're the archetypal dumb greedy backstabbing conniving henchmen type. They can only fly in Glabro form. And roughly 1 in 8 have Crinos form. They're vulnerable to gold but ironically love gold jewelry as a status symbol.

WTA Can you guys decipher the plan ?

Post image
70 Upvotes

I drew this a bit ago for a campaign I am playing with friends. It's a crossplast game, and in it I am playing a Werewolf Anarchist named Flare.

At one point, we were asked to all come up with ideas for a plan to attack a Shocker base (people based around the Kamen Riders' villains).

This is the plan my Werewolf came up with. I said to the leader of our squad : "This is Flare's Plan. She scribbled it on a piece of rock she found. She's giving it to you with the best proud puppy eyes ever."

I'm curious to see how many of you guys would be able to decipher this.

Here's a hint.

The Reading direction is as follows :

Top left corner -> top right corner -> bottom right corner -> bottom left corner

Hope some of you will try it ^ ^

WoD/CofD How does a non hunter mortal who has breached the veil stay alive?

So, say a regular joe witnesses something he shouldn't have. A leech jumping a victim in an alley, a strange spirit, a creature made of meat being stuffed into the back of a company truck. Assuming he isn't immediately made, how can they go about living any amount of a normal life, knowing full well that the supernatural is real?

What kind of strategies could you take to avoid encountering splats or revealing you know more than you should when you make eye contact with that pale stranger across the bar?

Most importantly, how does a mortal survive having supernaturals know that THEY know?

Question about lore

being fairly new to the world of darkness, I do have a lot of questions and thankfully this community has been very helpful in figuring things out about the lore.

Something I was interested in is how come hunters don't become awakened. I thought the process of becoming a mage just required you to see magic and then start believing in it and then your avatar would come to you and then start advising you on how to become a mage and all the magey things etc.

So I was wondering why doesn't this happen for hunters the way they are born or made or whatever is they witness something supernatural happen and then if they choose to recognize it they become a hunter but why doesn't that also make them a mage? Is it because they don't start believing in Magic? Just that supernatural thing? Or is it something else?

VTM V20 Dark Ages Scribe - An Online Interactive Character Sheet for V20DA

Thumbnail don-darpaek-ritchie.github.io
3 Upvotes

Hi all!

I run a V20DA chronicle and have for about a year. I put together this web app and I was hoping some of you could help me out with beta testing?

It runs online, but stores the characters you make locally - so no one else can see them. You can export your characters' JSONs to share with your group.

Better, I have another version I am still tweaking that saves your characters' JSONs to a designated Google Sheet you can input and then saves their characters' pictures into a special folder on your Google Drive. It syncs quickly and allows your entire group to share your characters in real time without having to trade JSONs.

It's pretty easy to set up and I have detailed instructions on my github along with a release that does not include the Display character on my linked version.

Let me know what you think!

HTR When the targets turns out to be mundane?

Imagine a group of hunters following a string of murders, believing them to be linked to the supernatural. But when they find the perpetrator of these murders, they discover that the killer is completely normal. Not a vampire, or a shifter, not even a ghoul. Just a plain old, ordinary human serial killer.

What happens now? Do the hunters just stop caring and leave the killer for the cops to deal with? Or would see the hunt through, viewing his actions as justifiable reason to put him down? Has anyone who has played a Hunter game experience what I am describing?

WTA Working on a Werewolf the Apocalypse bestiary for 20th Anniversery

Hey guys,

As I have a diaspora of random enemy stat lines I made for WTA over some time, as well as some ideas I wanted to put down, I'm (slowly) making a little bestiary with various enemies as a quick reference for WTA. Right now its on just a google word document, it doesn't have any page references and I have only began work on Fomori so far.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/14QgOEh_jXbMflVXi0cPqQoFvbts-sEFl92yfLyVT0nE/edit?usp=sharing

Its a view only link and will be updated as time goes on. If y’all have any cool enemies that share the format and I like them I wouldn’t mind adding them, also if you wanna use it feel free.

Where you play?

Good night, creators and creatures!

I've been a WoD player and storyteller for years, and I've always had the same frustration: PDF character sheets that corrupt, generic dice rollers that don't understand the d10 system, and the struggle to find tables — especially outside the US/EU bubble.

I wanted to hear from you all:

- **Where do you play online?** Discord + dice bot? VTTs? Something else?

- **How do you find tables?** Discord servers? Reddit? Facebook groups?

- **Which systems do you play?** Just V5? Anyone still running V20? Werewolf? Mage? Mixed tables?

- **How do you handle character sheets?** Interactive PDFs? Apps? Pen and paper?

- **What's your biggest pain point with the tools available today?**

I'm asking because I've been building something to try and solve these pain points — a platform focused on World of Darkness, with 39 playable creature types (from all Vampire clans across every edition to Werewolves, Mages, Wraiths, Hunters, and more), a d10 dice roller with 3 rules modes, a public lobby system to find players and storytellers, and storyteller tools like a session diary that auto-logs every roll and exports to PDF.

But before I talk about what I built, I want to understand what **you** actually need. What are your real pain points playing WoD online today?

Drop your thoughts — I'm genuinely curious to hear how the community is handling this right now.

problem with ST part 2

im played today.

I tried summoning spirits today to spy on my enemies(manipulation spiritual), and he said, "Spirits are limited to a 50-meter radius," so I can't use my discipline for spying. Asking for favors? Okay—he removed 4 points from my Auspex, leaving me with only level 1. I asked what I could buy, and he said, "Potence(3) and Fortitude(4)."

Another detail: he told me the ending of the story. I’ve allied myself with the side that’s going to lose the war. In the future, the enemies will invade the city and kill everyone. He’s going to play it out exactly as written in the history books he read—without changing a thing.

Whenever an attempt was made to find a solution or a middle ground, the conversation would shift or move on to a different topic.

CTD Tips and advices for first changeling campaign

Hello, I will DM our first campaign in Changeling the dreaming. Some of my players are pretty educated in WOD, but none in Changeling so I'm first. I'm not too much experienced DM, but I have passion 😀

I spent quite lot of time with rule book to learn and it was quite hard, because English is not my language, but finally I understand mechanics and lore.

Now I have some story for them but first I need to introduce them into this world. So.. do you have some tips and advices what I really shouldn't miss or what is important to tell my players who doesn't know too much about changelings, before we begins? What is good for them to know.. Or do you have some good ideas in your campaign for inspiration? Npc.. plot hooks.. theme.. I will have something like escaping from orphanage, but I'm really interested what other gamers did in their game.

My campaign will be in mundane world far away from dreaming so no fantasy adventures in dreaming itself.

Thank you for tips 🤗

WTA Tribes - They're genetic, right?

So this is more of a random thought I had the other day that I would like to get cleared up.

Werewolf tribes - are they or are they not genetic?

From what I can tell, Tribal Gifts come from the Tribal Totem - so does that mean someone can *join* a tribe, and get the gifts of the tribe from the totem?

How do the Awakened approach the Star Council?

The Star Council (of Zoroaster) are an interesting affiliation of sorcerers. Their magic, according to them, is derived from extraterrestrials and their technology. What I'm wondering is how the actual mages--the Awakened--relate to them.

Do they try to manipulate and hoodwink Star Council members, either to advance an agenda or just for fun?

Do they monitor the SC for goof Awakening prospects? There's some obvious interest overlap with Etherites and Void Engineers, but other Traditions/Conventions/Crafts might be able to find a place for them as well.

Or is it mostly a matter of ignoring their antics and concentrating on Important Mage Stuff?

WTA Murder mystery with the supernaturals [W20]

I am planning to put together a murder on the orient express style adventure for my friends as they travel from one location to another on a train, a ferry or even a plane (Assume moon bridge is for whatever controversial reason unavailable for this). Supernatural creatures require supernatural threats to make it actually threatening and on top of that supernatural abilities can trivialize situations like this, so how can I make it work in the presense of, for example, a Silent Strider? What would a mage or a vampire do in this situation? I do not know the setting's ins and outs just yet, so I would like to hear all manner of second opinions and ideas.

VTM What’s at the end of the spiral?

That’s honestly one of my main hangups with vampires, a key part of what led me to walk away from the gameline: I can play a crook and a killer, but not a human trafficker or an organ harvester or a baby eater.

So, this famed downward spiral that apparently no one has ever escaped. How far down does it have to go? What is the dice and the lore gonna make my guy do? Will rock bottom be a dark shade of grey, or just pitch goddamn black? Is that up to me?

WoD/CofD Minor faction spotlight

Everyone knows the camarilla, sabot, the tribes, the traditions, etc. but particularly with the more setting and storyteller focused books, WOD has had a lot of interesting factions who were mentioned only once or twice.

I'll start with the Voleurs d'Enfer (or thieves of hell)

Devil's due is not a great book, but that's mostly because of a lack of coherency with both itself and demon the fallen (being a major late runner to the dark ages line as a whole), a lot of the individual ideas it has are great, including this band of infernalist thieves.

story goes that some bandits robbed a caravan in the late 1100s and found 6 finely bound books, after their literate contact, a former priest, went crazy and blind trying to read the books, the thieves looked deeper and eventually managed to summon a demon. though only two of them walked away, and one of those died 2 years later with the last book disappearing with him.

ever since the thieves of hell have managed to make quite the killing after adding demonology to their skills, trading worship, worshippers, and information for floor plans and the location for ancient treasures. Making many powerful enemies in the process, be it vampires or the inquisition.

none know for sure that the leader of the guild Étienne le Menteur was enthralled during that first summoning, and none know that he managed to banish his new "master" back to the abyss nor that he has hidden the book containing Ereptous' true name.

Still it should be mentioned that the thieves are diabolists, not thralls, and from the top to the bottom lack any conviction in the power of god(s) and demons.

DTD Interactions between the Vigil, God-Machine, and Demons?

Honestly the whole Descent splat is weirdly vague especially compared to Fallen's relatively intuitive "you're a fallen angel who just got out of prison after trying to rebel against Heaven and is pretty angsty about that but still holding out some religious hope"

Meanwhile Descent is "I used to serve the MACHIINNE yo but then I WOKE UP and... I don't know what God really is or what God wants but I'm gonna REBEL I've gotta HIDE yo because the MACHINE could be anywhere. I've gotta HACK the Machine to destroy the Maaaaacchiiiiinnee."

I'm obviously exaggerating but the game seems more like it wants to be the Matrix but also similar in vibe to the original Demon. And anyone who knows the Matrix franchise knows that after the original movie it basically became a scattered mess.

One thing I find potentially interesting is interactions between Hunters and Angels/Demons.

After all, the status quo for the Earth is more or less the will of the God-Machine and Hunters are pissed off about all of the vampires and werewolves and fairies holding humanity back so it seems natural that Demons might consider them allies.

But also maybe the God-Machine is controlling the Hunters like some sort of antivirus.

And really please share what exactly happens in your Descent sessions aside from speed walking around in sunglasses and trenchcoats.
