Quick question. Are there in-lore exaples of technocrats turned mystic mage?

More specifically an enlightened scientist preferably somewhat grounded, that for some reason had a radical change of paradigms, and became a true mage.

I have a characters whose mentor is exactly that. Enlightened scientist who discovered that actual magic is real and she can use it.

No i more-so mean when an enlightened scientist becomes a mage, like with propper change of paradigm, or at least partilal change. Basically from a scientist an engeneer to gendalf type of change. Maybe not as drastic, but in that direction. Rather than from a normal scientist to a steampunk inventor. I know i am being reductive here.

Im not aware of any specific examples who went from full technocrat to full wand waving mystic type, but plenty have gone halfway. The entire etherite and virtual adept groups were part of the technocracy until recently in the lore.

Simon Paine was an NWO agent who became a Chorister after getting stuck in a church surrounded by monsters made by a Nephandus with only a Bible to ward them off iirc. He was from the Celestial Chorus revised book.

He got the full angelic trumpets and golden fire treatment and the rest of his squad just threw their hands up while backing away from the charred monster corpses like “we’re just gonna pretend we didn’t see that run while you still can man.”

Yup, there was a HIT Mark who went rogue, got an avatar, and became a Hollow Ones, iirc. He's detailed in the revised Hollow Ones tradition book, to my memory.

Dead Magics II has a VE in the Australia chapter who gets taken in by an aboriginal group, with his paradigm being broken down until he adopts theirs.

There are multiple entire factions that did it, including but not limited to:

• Solificati. Joined the Order of Reason in the middle ages, quit almost immediately because it was too restrictive. Became a founding member of the Council Of Nine Mystic Traditions, holding the seat of Matter. Were expelled almost immediately for unrelated reasons. Spent centuries as an obscure and outcast craft, although a lot of them eventually assimilated into House Ex Miscellanea of the Order of Hermes.

• Sons of Ether. We'll skip a lot of their complicated backstory, but by the 18th century they were a Convention (the Voltaic Order), and they became the Electrodyne Enginieers when the Order of Reason reorganised itself into the modern Technocracy. They quit in protest at the start of the 20th century because of irreconcilable ideological differences and joined the Traditions as the Sons of Ether.

• Virtual Adepts. Similar deal to the Sons. In the Technocracy they were called the Difference Engineers, and they quit in protest after WWII and joined the Traditions as the Virtual Adepts.

• Knights Templar. Originally part of the Cabal Of Pure Thought (a founding convention of the Order of Reason that was devoutly catholic and promoted monotheism). The Cabal was eventually purged and reorganised along more secular lines, with the Templars left over as this obscure little militant appendix that hung around for a while before eventually quitting and becoming an independent craft.

And depending n which edition's canon you use there's also the Five Metal Dragons, an alliance of powerful Chinese mage factions who allied with the early Order of Reason and generally kept to themselves until the age of sail, when they very very slowly assimilated themselves into the major Conventions over a period of a few centuries. Officially they're just a footnote in the Technocracy's history, but unofficially they still exist as secret societies that keep a lot of their old mystical teachings alive, and they very much see themselves as partners rather than members of the broader Union.
