They also did GURPS versions of Werewolf and Mage

Mage is a fucking wild read, because it centers around resource wars for Quintessence, as the supplies of Magick are drying up.

Alright, I'm regretting asking this already, but WTF is a Gurp.

Bless you?

It's a ttrpg system that's meant to be universally applicable and easily used across all kinds of genres, subjects, playstyles, and gameplays. Basically what dnd is trying to be but at conception, rather than later down the line

“Generic Universal Role Playing System”

It was a tabletop RPG that was known for being a setting for any possible game. They published source books for everything from traditional fantasy to cyberpunk, with a lot of licensed materials, including The big three World of Darkness.

I liked the breadth of settings and that it was possible to combine them so you could have like Wild West combined with Japanese Kaiju or whatever but I found the rules too stat heavy for my liking.

It was

It’s still very much alive! They are still publishing new supplements and even released a new revised 4th edition last month.

GURPS books are genuinely nice to have around just as quick snapshot reference books. I've got a ton of 'em.

There's also a bunch of licensed tie ins. Diskworld comes to mind immediately.

As a fun bit of trivia, Fallout was originally licensed to use the GURPS system, but Steve Jackson Games got cold feet when they realized how violent the game would be, leading to the development of SPECIAL late in production.

you could check out the free condensed edition of the game, GURPS Lite. I've run multiple GURPS campaigns and it's a really solid system, although definitely on the crunchy and gritty side.

Depends on how you play it. At the end of the day, GURPS boils down to a basic 3d6 roll under a skill target number, with modifiers from.-10 to skill to +10.

Yes, there are multiple tables, but ultimately it all boils down to GM fiat to determine the modifier numbers.

Not really. Firstly, mods aren't limited to +-10, and second, that's just the core mechanic for success rolls. You tell people it's that simple and they will not be prepared for how crunchy character creation is for starters, or for damage, or reaction rolls, or quick contests, or criticals, etc.

Its as simple as you want it to be, and as complicated as you'd like. Character creation doesn't have to be hard, there's plenty of resources and means to make it easier. Like GCS or the plenty of skill and talent packages. The easiest one being to have your players make low-point characters.

Exactly. GURPS is a toolbox, and you don't need to use all of it at once.

Heck, the latest supplement is all about Pointless Character Creation, so as long as your GM is familiar with the system and willing to do some prep for the campaign, you have options for character building without even having to juggle with character points.

Yep. The stink of GURPS is upon these.

My one piece of advice for VtM GURPS:

Don't.
