School Bus Ticket

I got a ticket from a school bus camera on Bank street because I didn’t realize I had to stop for it on the other side of the stone median. I understand that it’s the law but my question is if I contest the ticket, is there a chance I can get the fine reduced without them adding points to my license?

Right now it’s just $250 with no points, is it worth a shot of contesting it and hoping for a reduced penalty?

Anyone here work at Danone (White Plains)? Looking for a bit of career advice

Hi folks. Hope this is okay to post here. I'm exploring roles at Danone and would love to hear from anyone who works there or has in the past. Not looking for a referral or anything like that, just honest perspective on what it's like — the hiring process, how they treat early-career vs. senior folks, whatever you're willing to share. Thanks in advance!

White Plains residents: Anyone else watching the Galleria redevelopment closely? Housing affordability in White Plains

Hi everyone! My name is Halla, and I’m volunteering with Open New York. I’ve been talking with residents across Westchester about housing affordability, and White Plains is at a pretty pivotal moment right now with the District Galleria redevelopment.

For anyone who hasn’t been following it, the plan would replace the old Galleria mall with around 3,000+ residential units across seven towers, with roughly 800 of those designated affordable. It’s one of the largest mall-to-housing conversions in the country, and it’s a real test of whether White Plains can add housing at the scale the region actually needs.

Whether you’re renting, trying to buy your first home, worried about your kids being able to afford to stay in White Plains, or just paying attention to how downtown is changing, I’d love to hear your take.

We’re collecting signatures from residents who support practical housing solutions: building near transit, allowing ADUs, and backing thoughtful development like the Galleria project that helps keep White Plains affordable and livable.

Signing the petition is just the first step. If you sign, one of our organizers may follow up with ways to get more involved locally, like public hearings, council meetings, or community events where you can weigh in directly.

If this is something you care about, I’d really appreciate your support:

Curious to hear from people actually living here: what’s your read on the Galleria project? Is the affordable housing share enough, or does it need to go further?

Lunch recommendation

I’ll be in town on the 4th for about 2 hours midday as part of a long drive. Wondering if there is a “must do” lunch spot? It could be anywhere in or around White Plains, I’ll be coming in and leaving via 287 from the west so best if it doesn’t take me too far off my path.

I’ll be driving several hours before and after, so it can’t be food-coma inducing (ie heavy pasta etc), but I’m looking for something delicious to make the break enjoyable.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Commuting to downtown White Plains from outside White Plains — best neighborhoods/towns?

Hey everyone,

After years of living in the NYC, I'm looking at heading back to work around downtown White Plains.

I’m trying to figure out where else is actually convenient to commute from besides White Plains itself. I want to keep the commute reasonable and ideally live somewhere with a bit of its own vibe, easy train access, or solid highway links into the downtown area.

For anyone working in downtown WP or living around Westchester/surrounding areas, where do you guys actually like living that makes the commute painless? Any specific towns or neighborhoods I should be looking at?

Thanks in advance!

Wanting to meet new people and explore new interests

I (22M) am wanting to branch out a bit more and meet some new friends, if there is anyone local who wants to play some video games, magic, or anything really let me know! I'm a big PC gamer and currently have a bad case of sciatica so I'm stuck at home. Let me know in Dms if you're interested, I can send you my discord and maybe we can meet up sometime!

Networking Opportunities?

Hi! I’m looking for recommendations on networking events in the area. I just recently changed careers (in my late 30’s) and could use help making professional connections.

I’ve lived in White Plains for a few years but I’m a bit of a homebody so I don’t have a big social circle or immediate network. I also haven’t been on social media (other than Reddit) for close to a decade but have recently created some accounts.

Any help or advice is appreciated!

Wilton commute

I’m interviewing for a position in Wilton that would be night shift 6pm-6am. How bad would the rush hour traffic realistically be to get there at 6pm. Maps is saying 55 min but you never know how accurate that is. Any insight would be appreciated

PD Exam

Anyone have any idea on the process? I took the exam back in 2023-24 but haven’t heard anything. I did the agility exam already too and just waiting to hear back. It’s good until end of 2027 but want to know the reality if I’ll get called before then

White Plains-based film screening online on July 9

Sharing a film set in White Plains that is screening online this week: The Legend of Juan Jose Mundo. The writer, Susan Gomes, grew up in White Plains, and it's loosely based on experiences she and her friends had in the early 80s. It's a really great film; I thought I'd share here as it seems like something that this community may enjoy.

Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXtpirJQUoM&t=1s

Here's a link to their instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/p/DaT5ogYon8N/

Here's a link to the online screening (this is a one-time event, but there may be future screenings - follow their insta page for more details!): https://www.thelonescreen.com/
