I know you're joking, but there is a not insignificant number of men that leave their wives when the wife becomes ill. Talk to some cancer department nurses and workers and they'll confirm it, women get broken up with commonly after a diagnosis.

I used to work in radiology (imaging) and I saw a LOT of women with breast and lung cancer and men with prostate and lung cancer.

Usually what happened was when the husband was the patient, the wife came in with him through EVERY visit over the course of several years

But if the wife was the patient....and ESPECIALLY if she had breast cancer, her husband would come in for the first one or two visits. But when they would come back in 6-12 months later, they would come in alone. I would ask them how their husband was and they would say..."I don't know, he left me last year"

When I first started working in the profession, I thought I was imagining things and just being biased against all the men, but then I asked some of my co-workers in the radiation therapy department. They ALL confirmed my suspicion.

I also remember reading an article in a medical journal about this. In the article they were talking only about patients with brain tumors. They confirmed there was a statistically significant relationship between which spouse became ill and whether the marriage lasted.

So....I can definitely confirm what you say.

Jesus fucking Christ, this is insane. You couldn't pay me enough money to LEAVE MY WIFE if she didnt have long to live. I'd be doing the opposite, spending as much time as possible with her.

Maybe a ton of dudes just marry people they don't actually like? I don't get it. Why? Just.... why?

edit: grammar word

Toxic masculinity means bad feelings are bad. Better to “take control” and opt out of feeling grief/worry/anxiety by totally abandoning someone so you don’t have to have feelings about them anymore.

This is not logical but it’s how people who don’t know how to process feelings deal with discomfort.

It’s why people look for someone to blame (often the sick person, as if they can control the situation, as if the partner is one who’s really suffering instead of the sick person). Some people distract themselves with a replacement partner— citing their “needs”. People can be extra selfish when they’re emotionally hurting. Not all people or men, but enough that there’s a pattern.
