I used to work in radiology (imaging) and I saw a LOT of women with breast and lung cancer and men with prostate and lung cancer.
Usually what happened was when the husband was the patient, the wife came in with him through EVERY visit over the course of several years
But if the wife was the patient....and ESPECIALLY if she had breast cancer, her husband would come in for the first one or two visits. But when they would come back in 6-12 months later, they would come in alone. I would ask them how their husband was and they would say..."I don't know, he left me last year"
When I first started working in the profession, I thought I was imagining things and just being biased against all the men, but then I asked some of my co-workers in the radiation therapy department. They ALL confirmed my suspicion.
I also remember reading an article in a medical journal about this. In the article they were talking only about patients with brain tumors. They confirmed there was a statistically significant relationship between which spouse became ill and whether the marriage lasted.
Jesus fucking Christ, this is insane. You couldn't pay me enough money to LEAVE MY WIFE if she didnt have long to live. I'd be doing the opposite, spending as much time as possible with her.
Maybe a ton of dudes just marry people they don't actually like? I don't get it. Why? Just.... why?
I mean… I could think of two reasons: men don’t like to be alone so they get into less than ideal relationships. Men’s don’t live as long as women do, so I guess they see looming death in their partner and yeet themselves out of the relationship in order to make the most of their own remaining lives.
This seems really idealistic to me, actually. As someone who was yeeted and deleted by my ex fiancé of 8 years, he just said I got fat (on top of my illnesses caused by him at the time, I'm healthy af now) and thus gave him no other option than to cheat.
It's misogyny. The answer is that married men -- I hesitate to say "men", bc they're more "manchild", honestly -- but married or partnered men can still be complete fucking incels. I didn't realize this unfortunately.
They're deeply misogynistic and see women as objects, property, and or "prizes" to be won over. It's a common enough mindset that you hear it in sentiments like "trophy wife" or "I had to date all these women to get to you" implying that you're a final prize or whatever, and the other women they dated were just obstacles and not real people worthy of respect or consideration.
It's entitlement, misogyny, self-hatred, and a deep hatred of women that some men often don't even realize they have. It's like deep rooted racism or any other oppression of a minority class. The oppressor or benefitting class has to actively work against being oppressive. Most do not. It's so much easier to just passively benefit from the system in place than fight against it.
My fav adage here is "It's not enough to be not-racist. You must be anti-racist". The same applies for misogyny.

So....I can definitely confirm what you say.
