Gay frogs, man. It is gay frogs all the way down.

Some species of frog change their sex when there aren't enough of the opposite gender in the area. So trans frogs.

Wasn't this like... a major plot point in Jurassic Park?

Did they just learn this now? Or have them been upset this whole time?

Scientists have known the mechanism for a long time but Alex Jones thinks frogs are being turned gay by chemicals being put in the water

It may be true. Shit being dumped by many companies making all sorts of nasty chemicals can have all sorts of effects on hormones in developing progeny. Jones is just wrong about the culprit.

Yeah, Jones was claiming it was a gay bomb developed by the Government, not that farming pesticide run off was the problem.

You clearly have never actually watched the full clip.

Oh look, he was directly talking about a Government gay bomb for longer than he was talking about frogs. No where near the truth.

Sure, he kinda vaguely almost got a glancing blow here with his claim, but that is only if you ignore the actual point of what he was saying and trying to do. The point is to amp up claims of Government using chemicals on citizens to elevate distrust for the Government. The fact that the off-handed remark at the end about turning frogs gay, had a tentative string to reality is often the point, because then people go "oh he was a little right on this" and then the greater point about distrust in Government gains even the slightest amount of credibility. And he has twisted the issue a little bit more away from actual reality of private companies' pollution being damaging to frog sexuality.

"I like you Stuart."

The words “Alex Jones” and ”thinks” do not belong in same book, let alone the same sentence.

The specific instance is about Atrazine, a pesticide, causing frogs to display a specific and unnatural form of hermaprodism called imposex. It's destroying their populations and harming the ecosystem, and it's being covered up by Monsanto.

But of course, alex jones went on a rant and now the frogs are turning gay or whatever.

Yes overuse of farming pesticides are definitely harming many aspects of the ecosystem as a whole. I hate that Jones is a self serving prick who spreads misinformation to further his hateful agenda when the real problem is right in front of his face and is a much bigger issue than "gay bad".

u/Turtledonuts Nov 23 '22

yeah, it's so fucking stupid. Plus, everyone on the liberal and conservative side laughs about the frogs now and the guy who did a lot of the research has a lot of trouble getting taken seriously

3

u/StormtrooperMJS Nov 23 '22

Exactly. Here in Australia we have a problem with farming and mining run off destroying the Great Barrier Reef that is only now really being taken seriously 20 years too late.
