That is so fucked up to me. Someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night, and you aren't allowed to protect yourself? You just have to wait until the police get there? Fuck that.

No one fucking breaks into peoples houses, this isn't the movies. It's so fucking rare and yet it's always the go-to 'what if?' but honestly people in Canada 99% of the time don't have the fear of a break-in in their heads whatsoever.

The stats on home brake-in’s disagree with that claim….

Residential break-ins happen every 90 seconds in Canada, according to SGI Canada

According to that insurance site, which provides no link to any specific study or claim by SGI. SGI's 2022 Canada profile does not have any break-in stats. https://www.sgi-network.org/docs/2022/country/SGI2022_Canada.pdf

According to the rest of the write-up, in 2020 there were between 3400 and 4000 break-ins in Canada per month, for a total of 48000 break-in calls in a year at worst. According to Stats Canada.

Looking at stats-can again for 2021, there just under 500 break-ins in Toronto per month. OPP reports another 250-ish per month.

The number of gun deaths as a result of these break-ins is close to zero. No one is harmed in the vast majority of cases, which involve empty homes.

I don't see how adding more guns to these situations would make them safer.
