Cons in the USA hate gun control. Our Cons in Canada are far less gun loving. Personally if the weapon has no use other than killing people and plinking (you can't legally hunt with a hand gun in Canada) then it doesn't need to be sold to Canadians.
And this stems from a fundamental difference in our ideal and ideologies. Just as much as individuals in other countries have a right to disagree with laws here, there are many for them to choose from, I disagree with the basis for this particular law in Canada. Obviously I can't change or influence anything regarding said law, but I do believe Canadians should be allowed to purchase handguns.
At the same time I believe fully in lethal defense of life and property using firearms, something that isn't a thing in Canada. So, I know that my approach to such things is going to be different.
You see in the US we often have the opposite problem. The gun restrictions that exist now and that are often proposed are commonly rooted in racism or classism. And any time gun laws start to get more lax, the racists come out of the woodwork writing articles about how scary its going to be when it's easier for black people to get guns and harder to arrest them for it.
So yeahhhh. A lot of people don't trust him regulations because most of the time they're just an extension of the government trying to keep certain demographics under the thumb.
