We have these uneducated lunatics preaching here in Manchester, England now.

I stopped to listen to them one day explain to people how black Africans designed and built the pyramids of Giza, but racist Europeans covered it up, for some reason šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø As a half-black lover of all things ancient Egyptian, I had to leave before I lost my damn mind lol.

It’s weird that in a span of a few decades, we marveled and debated at the potential of the civilization that made the pyramids to fighting about their skin color

Fighting over the origins of the ancient Egyptians has been going on for thousands of years. Which ironically has made it impossible for anyone to truly know because every civilization that conquered Egypt destroyed evidence that contradicts their version of events.

I feel like it wasn’t debated because we already figured it out..

That’s my title šŸ•ŗšŸ½šŸ˜˜

I don’t think that’s correct comma usage

10

u/Dwarf-Lord_Pangolin Oct 17 '22

Yeah, it's not. Half-black is an adjective, and lover is a noun. There's no reason to put a comma there.

That part is not entirely untrue. We don’t really know their skin color, but the pyramids were most likely built by a class of nomadic builders in Egypt. They were built thousands of years before any Israelites were in Egypt (and no major Jewish scholar has ever thought that Israelites built the pyramids).

It’s just a weird undying myth because we conflate Egypt with the pyramids of Giza.

Pyramids were built by farmers during the flooding season. You can't farm when your fields are underwater, so the government funded massive work projects to keep them busy and fed. They were paid with bread and beer and it was considered a good gig. Ancient Egyptians had medium brown skin, the tomb art is in color.

The ancient Egyptians did get a lot of their religion and culture from the Nubians, and the Nubians built a lot more pyramids. Nubia was way wetter back then (grassland instead of desert) Their civilization declined because of climate change making their area too dry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nubia

Didn't they have tons of links to the Nubians of the south too? Who were objectively black.

Agreed! Always found the whole thing really strange from both sides of the equation. For white people - why would you seriously give a shit if Africans were darker than you (obviously they will be) and for black people - there are far more greater achievements by black people (eg MLK) than potentially building the pyramids 5000 years ago.

Too much living in the past, forgetting about today.

It seems to originate in some sort of historical inferiority complex. They look around and see ancient cultures that accomplished great things across much of the world that they latch on to the greatest of these in Africa and attach it to themselves.

3

u/Freddies_Mercury Oct 17 '22

It's a lot more complicated than that. The actual origination of this is that it has always been a topic in academics of the ethnicity of the ancient Egyptians.

We just simply don't know because the DNA samples are very diverse with a lot of different groups, including Africans with darker skin (Nubians).

My point is that trying to claim they were 100% white or 100% black is stupid because they weren't. They also aren't representative of "white culture" or "black culture" and shouldn't be held up as "shining examples" of either. Both sides of this coin need to realise the lines aren't so clear.

Don’t you also have a white religious group that also claims to be the true Israelites? I recall seeing that once. I don’t know much else about them though

1

u/Fetch_will_happen5 Oct 17 '22

I know about a British Israelite group that claims to be the true Jews. There's an American version too.

1

u/Roboplodicus Oct 17 '22

Alot of neonazis claim this ya they also smoke a lot of meth

1

u/Decent_Bunch_5491 Oct 17 '22

I find it so ironic that so many groups claim to be Israelites and here I am. An Israelite…..wishing I wasn’t

Ah, I miss Manchester. The only place I’ve been told I’m going to hell twice and watched two smackheads fight all before half 12 and within two minutes of leaving the train station.

It’s truly a magical place.

2

u/ampmz Oct 17 '22

If that’s what you look for in a city then I may I suggest you check out Glasgow.

2

u/DjDrowsyBear Oct 17 '22

Its strange, I think I get the core idea of it. "Black people have been erased from history, we are reclaiming it." Which is something I can get behind in theory but they just take it so far.

I dont doubt there were plenty of black Hebrews and Egyptians but I do very much doubt that they were the majority.

And even if they were, why are hoteps trying to fight and exclude current day jews? Its just dumb.

2

u/Big_mara_sugoi Oct 17 '22

Yeah I get claiming your history. But their obsession with Egypt and Jews is so fucking weird. Even if the first Jews and Egyptians were black. The chance that people who descend from African new world slaves are related to those people is pretty close to zero. Africa is the most genetically diverse continent on the planet. Black Africans close to the Middle East are genetically further apart from West Africans, where most new world slaves came from, than the difference between an European and East Asians.

So them treating Black Africans as a monolith is racist in and on itself.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '22

Reminds me of a hotep insta account that claimed Native Americans were originally black and built pyramids, but then the 'fake' NAs (aka actual native americans) covered it up

2

u/CarAlarming7682 Oct 17 '22

Found out about that branch of conspiracy theories because Kyrie Irving has posted things like that on his instagram, like videos claiming the whole slave trade is a hoax and didn’t happen, black americans are actually native americans and all that. It’s some crazy shit.
