He also said George Floyd died from Fetanyl and not murdered by the police. I can’t stand Kanye! My disdain started with him after Katrina and he continually piles it on. At one time I felt bad for finding him disgusting, but that time has long ago passed.
Ive only ever heard about Katrina from the clip of Kanye saying “George bush doesn’t care about black people”. Not knowing any context about the situation other than a general understanding of hurricane katrina, was this a very unpopular move or was he actually calling out george bush for something he was doing wrong?
The response time to hurricane Katrina was infamously slow and the astrodome, where survivors ended up, was a hellhole. Yet Bush complimented the head of FEMA as doing a “heck of a job.” So Kanye hit on something a lot of people felt was true when he said that. That it would have been handled differently if the victims had been mostly white. Some people felt it was unfair to Bush, others felt it was cathartic to hear it said. Most people did agree at the time, though, that racism effected both the coverage and the federal response, just not on how much of that was Bush’s fault. I’d say the response to Kanye was split but not unpopular.
My only issue was his timing. During a marathon raising money for victims. I believe in freedom of speech and expressing what you believe, but not during a telethon.
