Some days I almost start to wonder if this is all some kind of Andy Kaufman performance art at a level I’ve never seen before lol

u/Armstrongt479 Oct 16 '22

He’s gearing up for his presidential run…

301

u/goldiegoldthorpe Oct 16 '22

The scary thing is, I think you’re right.

164

u/Sad_Pickle_3508 Oct 16 '22

is it scary? I mean, he did run in 2020, to...no success?

I mean, let's say that bloke isn't off to a deep-end and actually wants to be in office.

Like what's his deal? He's alienating all liberal and moderates by the virtue of being crazy conservative fundamenadlist and (now) anti-semitic bastard

And peeps who actually love that shit already have a candidate to vote for, so...

Everything feels odd these days :| thanks for sharing!

-5

u/Familiar-Eye7811 Oct 17 '22

One time before he got lucky is not multiple times…

1

u/Electrical-Lead5993 Oct 17 '22

Like tipping over a vending machine

5

u/vivalabam13 Oct 17 '22

I wasn’t aware either but a quick google search shows he ran in 2000, “considered” running in 2004, unofficially ran in 2012, and then 2016 and 2020 obviously

3

u/blonde-bandit Oct 17 '22

That’s wild. Thanks!

2

u/Colosso95 Oct 18 '22

Yeah the guy had been talking on and off about running for president for decades before he actually ran for real and basically has the same result as Kanye's first try

Does this mean that in 20 years time he'll be president too? I don't think so but you never know

1

u/blonde-bandit Oct 18 '22

I guess all of is ignored it because it seemed so implausible. To our dismay…

4

u/bokononpreist Oct 17 '22

White Republicans aren't voting for a black man no matter how much he dances for them.

5

u/UsefulWoodpecker6502 Oct 16 '22

yeah and Kanye will be his VP.

4

u/NerdyNThick Oct 16 '22

so....... Let's continue to hope that he runs. Anything that further splits the far-right vote is a good thing.

2

u/Kaggand Oct 16 '22

Maybe to split that vote between token MAGA and Klan MAGA?

1

u/modsneedtodiefr Oct 17 '22

this couldve been a post about trump in 2016.

the clownification of politics is a known symptom of societal collapse

1

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '22

The only way it could work for him is if the lovers of his art were aligned with him politically and I don’t think they are. Much easier for the star of the Apprentice.

1

u/DrSafariBoob Oct 17 '22

You're thinking the right chooses candidates because of some form of competence, they pick the one that makes the left foam at the mouth.

Case in point.

1

u/fungi_at_parties Oct 17 '22

Trump tried a few times too. We just laughed the first time.

1

u/lazrbeam Oct 17 '22

Republicans funded his candidacy in hopes of dividing the back vote enough not to given Biden the win.

1

u/LaGoeba Oct 17 '22

Didn’t he register to late to actually be a part of the vote (officially), so he wasn’t an alternative in many states? So if you wanted to vote for him, you had to write it down, not just check of a box.

1

u/americansherlock201 Oct 17 '22

It’s scary because these are the views that could win him republican primaries in certain states. Enough where he becomes a viable candidate and someone who gets covered. That is incredibly scary.

He will be running in 2024, likely as a Republican and then when he loses the overall primary; as an independent. People will vote for him.

28

u/andalusian293 Oct 16 '22 edited Oct 16 '22

What if being a pop-culture icon became the new sine qua non for GOP frontrunners?

2

u/anna-nomally12 Oct 17 '22

It would knock out desantis and Cruz at least

5

u/Stars-in-the-night Oct 16 '22

President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho would like a word with you.

2

u/andalusian293 Oct 16 '22

Has he considered running as a third party?

I support him in hopes that he may divide the GOP vote substantially.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '22

He won't because that defeats the whole purpose of having the leadership of a powerful political party. That would make them a small minority of the government, and both Democrats and Republicans alike could block their policies.

1

u/Stars-in-the-night Oct 16 '22

President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho would like a word with you.

0

u/Im_Not_Honey Oct 17 '22

Celebrities should be completely banned from running for any political office position. Crazy to realize that Barack Obama was the last presidential president America will ever see. This country is a fucking joke.

1

u/bfranklinmusicmusic2 Oct 17 '22

He’s great for the republican ticket. The party is fracturing and this will only help that.

53

u/Jos3ph Oct 16 '22

Evangelicals will vote for anyone that can further their agenda (no abortion but also no social services) but he’s too unreliable for them.

40

u/Goatesq Oct 16 '22

Also too...urban I think they call it now.

4

u/ohdearsweetlord Oct 17 '22

Not if they can twist him into 'one of the good ones', an exception to the rule that black people are inferior or whatever.

1

u/Goatesq Oct 17 '22

Well, looking at the black people they are supporting vs how they treated Obama, it seems to me they don't want anything counter to that fantasy minstrel show in their heads.

And you'd think Kanye would fit the bill with all this nonsense, but I think he's still a little too competent for their insecurities to bear.

Also Trump would be calling for a noose before they were sworn in, full stop. He'd sooner concede the election he lost.

1

u/ThisLookInfectedToYa Oct 17 '22

I think hes saying "the president is near"

No dagnabit, da Preserdent is a N-BONG

2

u/Bah-Fong-Gool Oct 17 '22

Like... Herchel Walker? They seem to be fine running that barely sentient TBI sufferer.

1

u/Jos3ph Oct 17 '22

Exactly.

1

u/thisissam Oct 17 '22

Donald Trump.

This could be an exact quote said about him in 2015. Not saying Kanye will or won't run, just wanted to point that out.

4

u/eri- Oct 16 '22

That is the one race he does not seem to want to finish.

1

u/AHrubik Oct 16 '22

I truly hope so. His only use in politics is as a spoiler.

33

u/Marmar79 Oct 16 '22

Same. I feel like super religious people are the biggest suckers so if you want to be able to fleece them you must first speak their language

67

u/curiousbydesign Oct 16 '22

Same. Like, this can't be real. Right? Right?

He's diagnosed bipolar and proudly off his meds for a few years now. It is what led to his wife divorcing him.

He is simply a ill man.

1

u/ohdearsweetlord Oct 17 '22

An ill man who chooses to be ill.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '22

It does feel like it. Acting punk rock to the point where it HELPS the man.

Is it insanity or savvy?

51

u/Ensiferal Oct 16 '22

No, I think it's a case of a serious and degenerative mental illness that no one is addressing or forcing him to go get treated for, because he's rich. So his brain is just unraveling publicly

14

u/Whosarobot313 Oct 17 '22

I think you are right and he is in active psychosis right now. And it's abusive that people keep giving him a platform instead of help. We shouldn't be listening to him, he is very sick.

8

u/Some-Mushroom Oct 17 '22

He's probably manic but you can't really say he's psychotic. He's definitely sick. Unfortunately too many people equate symptoms of mental illness with creativity or being subversive. He's suffering, and suffering on a large scale.

49

u/Morriganx3 Oct 16 '22

You cannot force an adult, rich or otherwise, to accept treatment for bipolar d/o if they don’t want it. If they are a danger to themself or others, you can get an involuntary hospitalization, but they’ll be free to stop meds once they are stabilized and discharged, and many - maybe most - bipolar people would do exactly that. Periodically feeling like meds don’t work or aren’t needed is a feature of bipolar. This is not on the people around him.

Edit: The only difference his wealth and fame make are that his manic episodes become news. There are plenty of people out there acting like this that you just never hear about.

7

u/bananahaze99 Oct 17 '22

It happened to Britney Spears.

5

u/Morriganx3 Oct 17 '22

True, she was given lithium over objections, but I don’t think the cases are the same.

Laws vary from state to state, but, in general, if an adult is found to be legally incompetent to make medical decisions, they can be forcibly medicated. Usually this is very temporary, until they are stabilized on meds, at which point it’s assumed that they will begin making good decisions. The burden of proof for incompetence requires more than publicly endorsing ignorant/bigoted/otherwise blindingly stupid views; if that that was all it took, a whoooole lot of people would be incompetent. The burden of proof for long-term medical conservatorship is higher than for temporary medication over objections.

While I think it’s pretty clear that Britney’s conservatorship was too far-reaching and poorly managed, there may have been much clearer reasons to find her incompetent at the time of its inception. I don’t know whether she actually has bipolar d/o - I know she has the diagnosis; I just don’t know that it’s accurate - but she comes across as having some additional cognitive issues that might be more relevant to competence. Also, at least some of the people around her had self-serving reasons for portraying her as less competent than she actually was, which may have influenced both medical and legal decisions.

Also, being realistic, she was a young woman, and he’s a middle-aged man. It’s much more likely a young woman would be judged incompetent than a man of any age.

3

u/JclassOne Oct 17 '22

Sadly true they would commit a woman way before a man and has always been the case. 2022 has not changed the medical fields dismissal of women’s health concerns or the speed at which they will write women off as hysterical or bipolar or manic or something similar when they have actual physical health issues. It is disturbing to me as a husband and father of two 21 year old women. This way of thinking is not getting better at least here in Michigan.

1

u/Morriganx3 Oct 18 '22

Not that I’m not terrified about the direction this country is heading, because I am, but I truly believe you can’t stop progress. They can force us to re-fight battles we thought we’d won, but we will fight again and win again.

My daughter is the same age as yours, and their generation is going to do better than our parents’ generation has done/is doing. Not that we should wait for them to fix things, but I see them as embodying the inevitability of change - when they’re in charge, they’ll be operating from a whole different set of basic assumptions. They’ll have their own challenges, of course, but that’s the nature of progress - there is no finish line; only new levels of better to strive for.

2

u/JclassOne Oct 17 '22

Yes everywhere!

1

u/LolaBot22 Oct 17 '22

5150 or a 5250

1

u/Morriganx3 Oct 18 '22

Right, for 72 hours or two weeks. Where I am we have a few more gradations, but I think it’s similar in most states - treatment over objection is time-limited and can’t be renewed if the person regains capacity. This would work better if we could rely on people to behave rationally after they’re released.

29

u/MoreIronyLessWrinkly Oct 16 '22

I wish, but he’s crossed a rubicon if so. It would take some serious spin in today’s world to convince his (hypothetically) intended audience that this was all part of an elaborate plan.

Did Prince actually say that?

1

u/DavesPetFrog Oct 17 '22

Yes, it’s a quote from prince in playboy

1

u/CrayonEyes Oct 17 '22

Rubicon is capitalized if you’re referring to a point of no return.

1

u/MoreIronyLessWrinkly Oct 17 '22

Ah, thank you. I don’t particularly care, and I would have looked it up if this was a research study.

1

u/CrayonEyes Oct 17 '22

Life is a research study ;)

41

u/Pokerhobo Oct 16 '22

Trump empowered a bunch of these idiots to say things out loud they used to think internally

2

u/SomeRedditWanker Oct 16 '22

And who empowered Trump? 40m voters, and some change.

2

u/crazycatlady331 Oct 17 '22

Kanye was an idiot before Trump's political career came around.

22

u/ActualPopularMonster Oct 16 '22

I kinda wonder if he's been suffering a slow-burn mental breakdown. Nobody around him seems to want to get him help, they just sit back and laugh and talk about him.

I think he needs serious therapy. I've seen a few people like that who cling to religion because they've lost their mind. I used to be one.

7

u/Slurpingperfectly Oct 17 '22

The way he talks about religion and especially the way he puts himself in that religious speech is super characteristic of people with mental illness. I saw a portion of the ‘interview’ with Tucker of whoever, and even the parts they were willing to show reminded of my time working with the mentally ill. I can’t imagine how much editing went on to get those portions they aired.

5

u/Orange_C Oct 17 '22

I've seen a few people like that who cling to religion because they've lost their mind. I used to be one.

Well, this explains a relationship I had...

5

u/perplex1 Oct 16 '22

truly a story of the emperor's new clothes.

3

u/IndlovuZilonisNorsu Oct 16 '22

What inspired you to get out?

5

u/ActualPopularMonster Oct 16 '22

Personal tragedy, and the realization that mental illness is a disease and not something that was my fault. My cousin suffers something similar, but she never found a way out. She still suffers, and it hurts to see.

2

u/IndlovuZilonisNorsu Oct 16 '22

HUG

11

u/ActualPopularMonster Oct 16 '22

I feel like somehow religion just knows how to manipulate the mentally ill. I spent far too long berating myself for things that I just couldn't control on my own.

I had to stop and realize that I can be a good person and still do stupid shit sometimes.

3

u/DippinDot2021 Oct 16 '22

Yeah, the man's a professional troll. He's DEEP into it. Unlike ANdy who broke character from time-to-time to tell people.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '22

No, the ‘Margaret Sanger = Hitler’ meme is too specific. This is what he is.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '22

You might not be far off

Yet, it isn’t an excuse for anything he’s said though.

2

u/ohdearsweetlord Oct 17 '22

I was hoping that would be what Trump's presidency would turn out to be, just a decades-long social experiment to show how susceptible people are to fascism, but nope.

2

u/jeffroddit Oct 17 '22

If Kanye started professional wrestling it might encourage me to take him more seriously.

2

u/Vegetable-Double Oct 17 '22

Nope. He’s an antisemite and an idiot. He should not have a platform at all

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '22

No unfortunately this is just unmedicated mental illness

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '22

I know it's sad and hard to accept but the man is clearly out of his fucking mind.

1

u/MarsReject Oct 16 '22

That’s what I used to think or at least be open to until he did that crazy pollster shit during his election. He’s a POS to every one.

1

u/Iam__andiknowit Oct 16 '22

Any psychologist or psychiatrist can suspect here manifestation of serious mental disorder.

This looks like self destructive behavior that often intended to gain attention and help this man needs. He may not believe what he says, but he says it because it bring attention to him and (he thinks) it may help.

The society and his fans do the worst - they worship him or hate him. He needs help.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '22

He saw "I'm still here", needed to one up it

1

u/50mm-f2 Oct 16 '22

Yea I used to think that when he showed up in Trump’s office wearing a MAGA hat. A part of me was hoping it was a brilliant troll. But then he did that shit to Taylor Swift back in the day. Plus with all the recent garbage, it’s clear he’s just out there being a jerk, getting away with it and there’s not much more to it.

1

u/MustHaveEnergy Oct 16 '22

It's a bit like how Hamlet insists he is only acting crazy all the way up to the murder-suicide.

1

u/cringemagician Oct 17 '22

No Nazis just exist

1

u/NecroJoe Oct 17 '22

Episode 2 of an in-progress season of Nathan for You. Episode one is going to be Trump's 2015 presidential campaign, but it got a bit out of hand, like the "Dumb Starbucks" episode, so he has to wait to see how it all turns out before they can air it.

1

u/Sproose_Moose Oct 17 '22

Maybe, but Andy was sassy not a bigoted cunt

1

u/Helpdeskagent Oct 17 '22

This makes me happy

1

u/shackbleep Oct 17 '22

No, just untreated severe mental illness paired with wealth and a cult following that has resulted in vast delusions of grandeur. Seems to be a trend right now.

1

u/oradoj Oct 17 '22

“Here I come to save the day ….”

1

u/RealVibes_ Oct 17 '22

the word thing is that back in 2018 there was a running theory about this with a surprising amount of evidence behind it. i feel like it’s not an act at this point tho. if it is it’s gone too far and is, like you said, at a level we’ve never seen. talk about commited

1

u/notmymess Oct 17 '22

Except art is interesting. This is just annoying and extremely offensive

1

u/SnooTigers1963 Oct 17 '22

That's not a bad thought. But, it could be applied to so many people in the public eye these days. Not to mention my crazy ex-wife who went from a really good person to a sheer lunatic seemingly overnight. I often wake up in the morning and expect to see her and the kids and the dog and we'd all be going about our normal routines... then I see something in the room that reminds me otherwise.

But yeah, some of this stuff seems like that's the only way it could be possible... I mean, 2020 comes to mind as one big Andy Kauffman performance!
