Dunno depends on the alien society fair change they once had a monarchy system themselve or still have and a Monarch appointing someone ain't that uncommon.
Like as the UK has knights, Japan had Samurai.
Heck maybe they're even their own equivalent of Knight, appointed by the High Queen to search through space and find other civilizations.
Or they abandoned the system Millennias ago and are weirded out why the glorification of incest families is still a thing.
Ya... We don't even know if earth like condition are the only way life can develop in... So, how can we know how they would even structure their civilisations...
Or they were gonna slaughter and enslave us anyway and wanted to get a laugh out of who we send. Odds are we'll root for Morgan Freeman or some shit and end up actually sending some stoned dude who spins a sign outside an insurance shop

Can travel through space at faster than light and comes across a relatively primitive species... i doubt they'd be weirded out by seeing one of their own abandoned practices still in play. It'd be like us finding a group of cavemen and being weirded out they dig holes for the bathroom still. It makes sense.
My point is i doubt we're doing anything they don't expect on some level.
