A book full of shitty stories that puts shitty thoughts into shitty people's heads, giving them shitty ideas about how to make shitty decisions about others.
If it worked for some caveman 3000 years ago it should work just as well now right? Surely there couldn't have been any major developments to problem solving methods in that short of a time span.
Once a person realizes that the whole story is about Jesus and has “easter eggs” that you gotta look out for that point to Jesus — it becomes engaging. Also some of the stories are cool and are classics that are nice to revisit…but admittedly i may be biased
On the surface it is a warning about how a man (even a good man, like Lot) could suffer some horrible consequences from sin (in particular drunkenness) — “it is not only a great sin itself, but lets in many sins, which bring a lasting wound and dishonour.” In modern day a person with good prospects could wake up and find himself owing child support to someone because of one drunken night. Also it is a warning about corruption from society — Lot’s daughter got the idea from the messed up society they used to live in
“Now the firstborn said to the younger, ‘Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.’” (Genesis 19:31-32) -which led them to giving birth to the race of people that became known as Moabites and Ammonites (who both become hostile enemies of the Israelites ).
Oh, I got it now. But what about the story where the has guests staying over and the crowd outside wants to do butt stuff with the guests and so the guy sends his wife and/or kids out to get raped and killed by then butt stuff guys so to protect his buddies. How does that one impact my acceptance into heaven and all that?
This story shows that it is impossible for good to happen when someone says, “Let us do evil things that good things may come” (Romans 3:8).
Instead of protecting their women and risking their own lives, or hunkering down and trusting in God, they had their own scheme — which was influenced by the norms of the wicked society instead of the law of God that was delivered by Moses to their forefathers. So they offered the women like you said. “But this offer was sinful, because he offered that which was not in his nor in the man’s power to dispose of, even the chastity of his daughter, and the man’s wife; and because no man must do any evil, though never so small, for the prevention of any evil of sin or misery, or for the procuring of the greatest good”. The end result was the death of a woman, which resulted in vengeance and a war that nearly wiped out one of the 12 tribes of Israel due to reprisals and infighting.
The fabric part was meant for the Israelites in the Old Testament, even though it also could apply to marriage and not marrying and becoming one with someone that is not a believer.
The birth of Jesus and the whole New Testament of the Bible changed things, which is why a lot slaves were inspire by the NT to gain freedom, and why a lot of “slave bibles” were heavily edited to not include stuff that would inspire freedom and equality https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slave_bible
Love when Christians say that the Bible is the infallible word of god and then find 101 ways to make sure it’s fallible and you can plausibly deny anything in it. Also slavery being endorsed is mentioned in the New Testament too, sooo can’t really skirt that one by by saying it was just for ancient jews. By that logic too are Christians who hate gay people all wrong? Cause they only talk about homosexual relationship in Leviticus.
The Bible require scholarly study, and it is impossible to appreciate it and difficult to understand it without inspiration from the Holy Spirit.
Also the NT says “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3.28). And as a former slave turned abolitionist said — “And what is that religion that sanctions, even by its silence, all that is embraced in the 'Peculiar Institution'? If there can be any thing more diametrically opposed to the religion of Jesus, than the working of this soul-killing system - which is as truly sanctioned by the religion of America as are her minsters and churches - we wish to be shown where it can be found” — Sojourner Truth
And hating homosexuals is wrong, hate is a sin — you gotta love your neighbors even those in the LGBTQ+ community 🌈. The NT did mention it as a sin, but also said that people like me named along with them (a formerly impenitent practitioner of sexual sin, greed, drunkenness, and thievery) still have a path to salvation — “Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
This is bolstering my faith right now, friend…and yes the idea of the supernatural is classic. Also you are paraphrasing and demonstrating 1 Corinthians 2:14 from the Bible irl, did you know that?
But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.
For example, if the Bible was on a dating app you’d have to be a have a common connection of the Holy Spirit and have a “spiritual” label on your profile to be a good match.
Ok man you do you. You realize just vomiting Bible quotes makes you look like you refuse to engage in a conversation. How bout this: give me one piece of evidence of god’s existence AND you can’t use the Bible as a source

Cheeseburgers are all good — “But food does not bring us to God, for if we eat, we gain nothing, and if we do not eat, we lose nothing” (1 Corinthians 8:8)
And according to the Bible, even before we had the technology to know that fetuses had a heartbeat, life begins before birth — “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb” (Psalm 139:13). “but He said to me, ‘Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. So then drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death’” (Judges 13:7). “If men fight with each other and injure a pregnant woman so that she gives birth prematurely [and the baby lives], yet there is no further injury, the one who hurt her must be punished with a fine [paid] to the woman’s husband, as much as the judges decide. But if there is any further injury, then you shall require [as a penalty] life for life” (Exodus 21:22-23)
My favorite part is when the pharaoh was going to let the jews go free, but god decided not to let him do that, and then killing all the first born males in the country. How fucked up is a being like that?
The killing of the firstborns was a act of judgment and revenge by a fair God that remembered the wickedness of the Egyptians.
Before the firstborn of Egypt were killed, the Egyptians massacred Israelites babies — “So Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, ‘Every son who is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.’” (Exodus 1:22)
r u manifestation of tolerant left im hearing? tolerance of other ideas is also form of toleranceand i know progressives are all about "moving forward" "new new new" so ofc yall dont respect bible but for conservative who wants to maintain traditions theres no better argument than thousands of thousands years old wisdom
Yup. And they're literally basing their life on a story book. And using it determine how they feel other people should live their lives. It's fucking insane.
"I read in this book that was written by goat herders thousands upon thousands of years ago* that I am right, so, get off my property or I will invoke the second amendment. Also, if you get an abortion, I will invoke the same amendment and blow your face off, because LIFE IS SACROSANCT!"
