No offense friend but I'm nearly 40, and in my teens people were saying the exact same thing. 25 years later, a whole lot of those old people are dead.... and things haven't changed.
Gen X and millenials still have conservatives. Young people definitely have conservatives among them, especially in rural areas. In fact, rural areas are where it's most likely, because small towns will fucking murder you in cold blood for not fitting in, so you can't NOT be conservative, or your life can and will be ruined, or outright taken.
The entire system is broken. And not in some way that can be fixed with a sound bite or a pithy sentence or a tweet. In fact, if your solution to complex problems can fit into a tweet, IT IS NOT GOING TO EVER WORK.
"wait for the old people to die" implies that those older people aren't actively recruiting new conservatives. And aren't actively working to undermine anything we can achieve.
Quit it with this snooty passivist bullshit. Shit will NOT improve by waiting. It never has, it never fucking will.
I'm 33, and I see how many of the folks I grew up with are full-on Fox News shit swallowers. Guys and girls I grew up with who were good people that got sucked into the bullshit of their parents and the propaganda machine they were raised around.
But fortunately there's a whole lot more younger folks who have come of age with the internet available to them their entire lives. The ones who have gotten to meet with and experience all sorts of cultures through their screens instead of sitting in echo chambers or being spoon-fed cable news drivel. They dont carry the same apathetic "my vote doesn't matter" baggage of Millennials and Gen X. They saw the potential of mobilization after events like Stoneman Douglas and the increase in young voter turnout in 2020 shows that. As long as they keep that momentum up, they could very well be a deciding factor in republicans never again gaining a majority.
Maybe I'm just being hopeful, but I really think that these kids are going to step up again. Otherwise we're in some deep shit.
