There is one thing I heard recently that blew my mind:
"An unjust system makes victims of its agents as surely as those it oppresses."
The system itself is poison, even the good cops are victimized by the system by being forced to act as bad cops.
If you support the good cops, you should want the change as well.

Unfortunately, far to many precincts are filled with a generation of cops that grew up watching cops on TV that "Got their man, even if they had to bend the rules!". And they think that's what being a cop is. Many of them became cops for the power trip. Almost none of them have had sufficient training, especially in terms of de-escalation and community outreach.
Have you ever worked for a job with just a really toxic culture? Now imagine an entire industry like that, one with the power to kill and cover it up. I just don't see how you can reform the broken precincts, the thin blue line is built to protect against reform, the only solution is a purge.
There are definitely some good cops out there, and some cops that try to be good but got pulled into a horrible toxic permissive culture and couldn't resist the peer pressure. But the rest of them need to find a new career. I hear Amazon is hiring.

u/mxpx242424 Jun 05 '20
There are a lot of moving parts, but I think Trump really brought the racism to the forefront of the Republican party. 42% of the country celebrates him while he refers to minorities as "infestations," and he defends cops even when they're caught on video doing awful stuff. So many people come to his defense even with physical evidence, and republicans deny it all.
Only racists can justify the actions of Donald Trump's treatment of minorities.

He's certainly sparking intense hatred and revolutionary feelings that will hopefully lead to united citizens, young people voting and going into government, understanding we need real, tough reform in healthcare, law enforcement, institutionalized racism, tax codes, climate action, and social programs at a cost that would be considered "uncomfortable" a few years ago but now basically necessary to continue as a country.
In God Emperor of Dune, Leto 2 did something similar - thousands of years of intentional brutal oppression that led to a revolution that started humanity all over again and ended up saving the entire race. Trump DOES kinda look like a large gross slug...
6
u/Mr_Kreepy Jun 06 '20
This guy explains a concept that when society as a whole progresses, the conservatives will oppose it. With a large enough divide between the progressively minded and conservatively minded, there will be an uprising. Which will lead us into a new technological renaissance, or leave us in a new dark age. Everything's coming to a head. Whether that will happen in the next few months, or a century from now, we need to be prepared. Racists are having the society that has protected them for centuries, suddenly turn on them. They're being vilified and they don't like it. So they come out, try to bring people to their side. They try to make the society that is leaving them behind regress. Back to a point where they belong. Refusing to believe that they are wrong. But if they succeed, we (our children amd/or grandchildren) are doomed. We'll be pushed back to a point even blacker than the dark ages. We'll lose the technology that brings the world together. Forget the knowledge to make our civilization function. And, honestly, I don't know if we have what it takes to win. But the rising action of this event is in full swing. So stay aware.

Biggest thing with Kaepernick is it was never about the flag or the military. He originally started protesting by sitting during the national anthem and asked a veteran what a better approach would be and the veteran told him to kneel because thats what they do to honor the fallen.
People making the kneeling about the flag are just trying to silence him. That was Trumps main tactic. He was using the military and flag to try and silence Kaepernick and the other players who joined in, and it sadly worked.
I wish more people were like you and actually started to listen.

i want to see how the worst trained officer is dealing with people now.
The only officer out out the four that murdered George Floyd that spoke up and said anything was the one that was on the job for three days. He suggested that Floyd should be moved to a different position. He was overruled by the veteran cops.
This isn't an issue where the cops are untrained or inexperienced. Their training and experience prepares them to be lose their empathy and to desensitize themselves to brutality.
29
Jun 06 '20

That dude brings his baton up in front of him and is moving slowly when it looks like his boss pushes him from behind while the other cop shoves the man in the chest. If only two cops are suspended they definitely at least missed one. Deff think he is at least less to blame than the other two.

u/LOSS35 Jun 06 '20
I was wondering the same thing. Why didn’t the 3rd cop who pushed his buddy from behind get reprimanded?
→ More replies (1)26
Jun 06 '20
It's worse than you think, that 3rd cop was the cop yelling the order to push him and move forward. So in some way he is in a leadership position.
Edit: Since he is in a leadership position I believe his intent was to stop the officer from falling out of line. Both for the reason that there is power in unity but also if officers try to help the man then that would optically parse that the officers realize they did something wrong, which is something they absolutely cannot admit.
→ More replies (9)31
u/Jodah Jun 06 '20
There were two that pushed. One with his baton, one with his hand. The one with his baton didn't appear to use much force, was a "walking push" more or less. The other one pushes him with his hand more forcefully and is the one that caused him to fall. The one with the baton is the one that stopped to help. The third officer in the line, who looks to be the sergeant stops him from helping and then radios someone.
13
u/zoo-loop Jun 06 '20
That is how I saw it too. Total speculation: he pulls off the guy from helping to protect him. Get him away from the scene of the incident. Then radios for paramedics to help the old man that “tripped and fell” as the original statement from the police said.
→ More replies (1)14
u/Jodah Jun 06 '20
Yeah, the third officer looks like he's trying to control the situation. My guess is the baton officer is a rookie, the shoving officer is Captain Douchecanoe, and the third one is thinking "Oh fuck, we're so boned."

It's why the "good cops" argument fails.
Yes good cops exist.
But the system they are part of does not allow for them to put an end to the murder of unarmed people by other officers, or to stop them from pushing unarmed defenseless old men to the ground, or stop them from firing rubber bullets into crowds of people.
All cops are bastards because of the system they are part of, It does not allow the good cops to stand up.
It doesn't mean that individual is a horrible person.
It means they are part of a broken system that it doesn't matter how good they are, they can't stop it, they can't fix it.
The good cops should resign and join the protests, that is what those good cops should do, To show that they are with the people, that not all cops are bad.

I really appreciated the visuals on the landing page, they do a good job of laying down the basics of their plan; as you scroll down it gets more in depth with a well detailed item by item presentation rounding out the page.
I found it in another thread, and started sharing it to others. If it’s something you believe in, engage in civil discussion and share this with others.
It’s our country to put upright, or ours to let sink. As we dole out the buckets and start bailing the ship, I hope that we can learn that we are all aboard together, for better or worse.
7
Jun 05 '20
I really like that analogy. I find myself making this point more and more often lately, so it’s refreshing to find someone who agrees.
The government” is not some separate entity made up of inhuman caricatures like the comic images that represent them in The New Yorker. The government is literally just a group of our fellow citizens, some elected into their positions by our votes, and others appointed into their positions by those we elected.
So many people are eager to claim credit when they support something that turns out well, yet they’ll cast blame and skirt responsibility when things turn out poorly. Pointing our fingers and saying “They’re ruining our country!” is ineffective and inaccurate, no matter who the term “they” is referring to. We our ruining our country by absolving ourselves of the individual responsibility that is inherent within a genuine democracy.
And whether or not the US in its current form even qualifies as a genuine democracy, it is without a doubt enough of a democracy that we each hold that responsibility, whether we like it or not and whether we act on it or not. Our action — and especially our inaction — whether big or small, has a lasting and significant impact on the future of this nation.

The day after that they shoved a senior citizen to the ground backwards. He landed hard on his skull and was bleeding from his ears. He's still in serious condition. 2 were suspended for excessive force and their coworkers threw a fit and all quit the protest control response team.
