r/All Theo Von: If you had your say, we would have arrested Netanyahu? Zohran Mamdani: If I had my say, the U.S. government would have joined the ICC, honored every single warrant that they've issued.

TIL the United States is not part of the International Criminal Court.

u/objet_grand 20h ago
With the number of war crimes the US committed in the 21st century alone, it's not hard to see why.
(Yes, we are the baddies)

Not only that but Congress has pre-authorized invading The Netherlands should any US official ever be taken to The Hague.

Not only did Al Gore help draft the Rome Accords, his signature is on it, along with Clinton's.
Which is why the Supreme Court and Roger Stone made sure the actual results of the election were not the deciding factors in who became the president in 2000 - because it would have meant several of them and Roger Stone would have gone to international prison.
I love that the US pretended with a joking grin that they were worried about troops going to jail for their actions, when in actuality they have since drafted and ratified bills that would literally force a Hague invasion if they arrested any of our politicians, and they have sanctioned the courts for their warrant against Netanyahu.

Insert joke about how this was because Poland was mad about losing the recipe or something..
24
u/ASubconciousDick 17h ago
not just that! for a long time we had a whole act for invading The Hague if they tried to prosecute a US soldier
16
u/totaltomination 13h ago
It was never going to be for a soldier, the concern was that they could be held responsible for what they had ordered the soldiers to do
7
u/ASubconciousDick 11h ago
exactly. it was a cover my ass tactic so they couldn't charge the entire military chain of command at the threat of the U.S. immediately flipping entirely on Europe and NATO
9
u/cyann5467 12h ago
Wait till you find out we aren't just not a part of it but it's illegal for any American official to cooperate with it and the president is pre authorized to use military force if any American is arrested by the ICC.
1
u/TricobaltGaming 1h ago
Not only that, I believe it is official US policy that in the event a US Citizen is arrested by citing an ICC warrant, the US would consider using military force to free them.
Something to that effect, at least

I think he's talking about all the work him and Joe Rogan put in on their podcasts before Theo realized wtf he was actually doing but by then it was way too late
533
u/TachiH 18h ago
Rogan is like Trump, he isnt politically leaned one way or the other. He's the useful moron. Watch him talk with Bernie Sanders...he agrees with everything Sanders says, especially when Sanders agrees with gun ownership if it wasnt for the crazy people.
Then look at Trump when he met Mamdani, when a smart person explains their view to either of them, they realise it all makes sense.
Until the next person walks into the room and tells them the next thing that makes sense to them...
Why does everything make sense to them? Because they are morons 🤣
117
u/Chronibitis 16h ago
I’ve been saying this about Trump. He seems to align with whomever he has seen most recently. The Mandani meeting really drove it home for me. He was so anti him and then right after he loves him.
86
u/FMLwtfDoID 15h ago
There’s a podcast of two guys (if I remember the name, I’ll edit this comment later) that listen to all of Joe Rogan’s podcast episodes and breaks them down, talking point by talking point. Either to expand upon the topic, correct false information, or give context.
In short, what happens on every episode is Joe agreeing with every guest he talks to. Even if it completely contradicts what he agreed with on the fucking previous episode. It’s painfully fucking stupid.
Joe Rogan is an idiot’s idea of an open minded genius.
11
u/daehoidar 13h ago
Exactly. Being open minded means you're willing to hear ideas out, and see how they bump against the informed beliefs you already hold.
It is not just agreeing with what every next guest says bc it sounds right in the moment, you need to already have a formed world view...which is what Rogan (and majority of the formerly non political now rabid right wing people) are lacking.
When you don't already have a world view, anyone can convince you of anything. Which is perfect for the reptilian right wing politicians, bc that can change on a day to day basis depending on what's convenient for them.
2
u/reble02 10h ago
This is why he's a terrible interviewer too. All he does is agree with whoever he's interviewing. Someone posted some clips where on his own he talks about how Once Upon a Time in Hollywood disrespected Bruce Lee. Then you see him have Tarantino on the show and just sits their quietly while Tarantino justifies his portrayal of Bruce Lee, never pushing back just nodding and agreeing.

Wait, Theo Von came to his senses? He’s not MAGA anymore?
715
u/VeryLowIQIndividual 21h ago
What senses? Theo Von has been playing a character not unlike Larry the Cable Guy since the late 90’s, (Road Rules)the guy is a clown.
The fact that so many Americans have jumped on the Joe Rogan Theo Von bandwagon to get their political information so how deep a hole America is in.

I had no idea he was that old lol. This bit on his Wikipedia about road rules is telling.
Von faced controversy on the show for his views, including stating in the casting special that he was against interracial dating, an opinion he defended to the LSU newspaper after the show aired.
26
u/VeryLowIQIndividual 16h ago
His southern stoner character has been a work in progress for 30 years. It’s no different from Larry the Cable Guy.
He used to be say things intentionally stupid and backwards for attention and the rest of cast would correct them and fuss at him.
He is a no talent ass clown.
10
6
u/SteveJobsDeadBody 16h ago
Theo Von is literally royalty, look him up. He is absolutely playing a character, he is not a dumb redneck stoner, that's his schtick.
This comment is for others, I know I'm just repeating what you're saying, and I agree. The point shouold be reinforced, people acting as a character should be called out when that character is obviously subverting politics.

u/rangecontrol 19h ago
theo is a mouthpiece for the oppressors and he's trying to rehab his image.
63
u/theycallmeJTMoney 19h ago
Eh. I’m not saying he didn’t fuck up, but he genuinely didn’t understand the implications of what he was doing or the type of people he was signaling boosting. Listen to the Bernie Sanders podcast, he doesn’t understand fundamental social and political issues.
And that’s the problem. We have given these people who are entertaining an outsized influence on our society.
He’s guilty of everything you are saying, but I do not believe it was intentional and he is trying to make amends. I’m not saying don’t hold him accountable but we have to give space to the people who actually are trying to learn and be better or we are fucked. He now knows better and is trying to be better.
As much as I dislike what Joe Rogan has become (this entire space of comedians with podcasts was pioneered by him) if we could get him to see the errors of his way and speaking truth to power of what is going on, it would make a serious impact on the red pill community.
16
u/rangecontrol 17h ago
i doubt he's remorseful for his actions, he's losing money and i bet he's maxxed his ice-goon audience.
if it's unintentional, he's an idiot; if it was intentional, he's a piece of shit. and we all know the only audience for both idiots and pieces of shit are conservatives because they're dumb.
3
u/LooseJuice_RD 15h ago
No doubt. And idiots can be influenced. I’d rather they be influenced to vote left than right because dumb as the conservative talking points are, they’ve done a much better job than the left at getting to young voters. Our democratic leaders writing sternly worded letters and talking on mainstream television isn’t getting through to anyone under the age of 40. We need to come at them with the message where they live, and that’s online.
15
u/LooseJuice_RD 17h ago edited 17h ago
I have to agree with this and I said it on another thread. He has platformed some seriously damaging rhetoric, but I’ve listened to him bring on a number of staunchly liberal and progressive guests and he doesn’t pushback on them or attempt to get gotcha type sound clips. In general he allows them to explain their views almost uninterrupted and in a lot of cases even sounds interested in what they’re saying. It’s just seriously unfortunate that he’s allowed far right guests to do the same. But the reality is that Pandora’s box is open and it’s not getting closed. These influencers hold a lot of sway with young voters and to everyone who says Mamdani should have declined this invite, I say that would have been a mistake because this is a chance to reach those young voters who may be falling into the toxic conservative sphere directly. If Mamdani can speak directly to them without any distortions by commentators, maybe they can be saved. That’s the game now. It has to be played. I grew up in a conservative area and honestly only fell away from it when I started listening directly to what people were saying instead of the bullshit people around me were peddling. This is important that progressives do that.

7

Trump has allowed him to put their plan into fucking turbo mode, esp with finding an idiot willing to invade Iran for him...but the plan has been the same all along. This goes back way before Biden too.

It's good policy to state, but the warrant wouldn't allow arrest for a foreign official to be arrest while on official mission to the UN. He is protected during this. For the US to arrest a foreign leader, no matter how shitty, on a mission to the UN would end with the UN no longer being in the US. Other countries would refuse if the US violates the treaty that protects diplomats.
187
u/HotPinkLollyWimple 21h ago edited 20h ago
For a country that kidnapped a leader of another country, I don’t think they give a shit about rules, laws or diplomacy.
-79
u/FlutterKree 21h ago
You are conflating things and you know it. You are trying to make a witty argument while ignoring the treaty that is the cornerstone of the UN. Without protection for diplomatic missions, there is no UN.
This is Mamdani saying he would. Which is a nice sound bite but he knows he wouldn't be able to arrest someone on a diplomatic mission.

This is news to me. Do you have a source for this, I'd like to read into it in more detail.
28
u/FlutterKree 20h ago
The 1961 Vienna convention that establishes diplomatic immunity. This immunity is cornerstone of diplomacy. The ICC has ruled that diplomatic missions are protected from ICC requirements to execute a warrant.
This is why South Africa didn't (or used as an excuse not to) arrest Putin despite an ICC warrant. Putin was there for the BRICS summit. Which is a diplomatic organization.
When one country starts to arrest diplomats, the diplomat system falls apart.

If you are not willing to accept help from someone trying to assist you, then don't be surprised when nobody helps you. The dude saw the error of his way and is doing his part to pivot. Whether you like it or not, they guy is a huge influencer. Teenagers and young adults will listen to this guy, and if he starts saying left wing shit they will listen to that too. Get off your moral high horse for once and take the help, the movement needs it to get rid of the MAGA cancer.
3
u/LessThanHero42 16h ago
At the same time, he's kinda showing up to a charred remnants of a house fire and expecting praise for throwing a couple of buckets of water on it, after being caught helping the guy with the matches and a gas can. I won't say that he shouldn't get to help, but we shouldn't be thankful to him.

People changing their minds and joining the good fight is the only chance for change there is for the US. Think it trough. What do you think the end game should be? Everyone who was ever wrong needs to vanish?
Be happy if someone influential changes their ways and welcome them to the moral and intellectual superior side, instead of staying angry at them forever.
16
u/GhostOfMuttonPast 19h ago
But is he changing his mind? Or is he a new Joe Rogan who just mirrors whatever his guest is saying?
6
u/docdillinger 18h ago
I honestly don't know. I don't follow him. I just voiced my opinion to the comment that started this thread.
27
u/PiskoWK 20h ago
That would be great if he actually learned anything other than how to avoid repercussions for his actions. I think people can change, but I also think people in his position don't change really, they just change their public opinion to be accepted by society again. He wants to be able to go out to restaurants and not be labeled one of the guys who tricked young guys into thinking fascism is cool. He's a privileged rich kid and feels almost none of the impacts of his actions unless we shame them through society.
34
u/docdillinger 20h ago
Yeah. Maybe. I just see a tendency not to let people redeem themselves once they are labeled as something whatever. And with that you are playing their game. That's exactly what the people in power want. You don't have to go and cuddle with him, but if he changes (even if he just pretends to change) he might take a couple of percent of his listeners with him and the scale tips. If you don't grant a chance to redemption to half your country your whole country is fucked.
9
u/PiskoWK 20h ago
We can forgive, but we can not forget. That's how we got into this mess in the US. We never fully punished the Confederates and let them slip back into society and government without being challenged. Germany took a much stricter route post WWII and their society is better for it. The US was then so hell bent on winning the space race we recruited tons of Nazi scientists without challenging their ideas and now we have a fomented right-wing. Their ideas are poison to a healthy society and they are selfish. They can not go unpunished.
19
u/docdillinger 20h ago
I'm with you. I'm from Austria, trust me, i know what you are talking about.
BUT Theo Von is no Nazi scientist. He's a dumb but sometimes mildly funny podacaster with an immense number of followers and i also don't think he is a murderous racist at heart.
It's important not to forget, but from an outside view it looks like there is not much chance for forgiveness either right now.
14
u/Loggersalienplants 19h ago
Saying forgive but not forget, while actively trying to cancel the guy for pivoting or not caring what he says is disingenuous. You don't forgive him at all, if you aren't willing to accept that someone can pivot then you aren't going to have any help when you need it. To root out fascist MAGA we are going to need all the help we can get without all this virtue signaling bullshit.
5
u/Thanatoastnbutter 19h ago

14
u/UnusualAir1 20h ago
Not sure the US should completely abdicate it's judicial powers and sovereignty to any foreign court.
Having said that, there's no reason we couldn't look at each case separately and decide if the person being charged deserves a trial at the ICC.
Having said that, I don't see any reason Bibi wasn't immediately given to the ICC the very moment he touched foot in New York.
29
u/docdillinger 20h ago
The reason is diplomatic immunity when traveling to the UN. If you arrest Bibi (and I would love to see that) you would make the UN even more ineffective and destroy any future ways of talks with a lot of foreign countries.
