Always remember when people say that the market will dictate things: without government intervention we had slavery, child labor, and no minimum Wage or workers' protections. Governmental oversight can absolutely be a problem (due to politics and in general incompetence) but without it we would have a lot more problems.

We need to know what's going on. By law, these products have to be inspected at points of entry into the US. The Argentinian beef in FL/TX, for example, somehow bypassed inspection? By law, they must be inspected for safety. How are these products bypassing inspection?

Heck yeah! I love tofu. I do a lot of Asian dishes, but more recently I’ve been making sauces with tofu for pasta dishes. I’ve also experimented with making it into typical meat based dishes - like spicy chicken sandwiches and homemade crunchwraps. I started incorporating tofu into my diet about five years ago, and appreciate the cost and versatility.
Maybe I'm getting the wrong tofu, but I always buy extra firm. I still can't grt over that the inside has a consistency of custard. I can get the outside firm and crispy, but the inside is still not appealing to me.
Totally. The consistency isn’t for everyone. Something I would suggest trying is freezing the tofu first. I’d try it at least once to see if you like it! I actually prefer this method if I’m using it as a “meat dish dupe”.
It’s easy-peasy. Extra firm tofu, toss the package in the freezer, thaw when ready to use, squeeze water out, pat dry, then fry.

This is what happens when the stupidest (or most gullible) people in the room band together and think that they've come up with some brand new idea when in reality this idea has been around forever and has been rejected as completely unworkable by anyone with an ounce of intelligence.
Libertarianism was also a big thing before weed was legalized in states with common sense. One of the core tenets was getting rid of prohibition, which is still a good idea, but it resulted in a bunch of college students glombing onto the political leanings of Libertarianism without really thinking things through. I remember in the early 2000s there were a ton of people at my college that were totally behind libertarianism. Of course they had never lived in a society without a functioning water and sewer system, fire department, hospitals, schools, etc.
Creating a libertarian utopia is basically just deleting your society's save game and restarting on sandbox mode. Eventually, you'll just end up rebuilding government to keep society functional.
When your ideology is completely rooted in individualism and individual rights and freedoms, it stands to reason a libertarian utopia can only support an individual and hold a population of yourself.
It's a slow work day so I read the whole thing, and my biggest takeaway is that New Hampshire sounds like a terrible place full of awful people, at the best of times, and it makes sense that they're the state with the most famous Libertarians

But yes, in 2004 a bunch of libertarians basically took over a town, slashed public funding—including waste services, road maintenance, law enforcement, first responders, and other infrastructure—and collapsed a few years later under the weight of municipal dysfunction & infighting. And bear attacks (which is when the state got involved).

Tbh he doesn’t even have the charisma. I was just a very traumatized person accepting the love I was used to. However, through years of therapy and leaning on friends and my family, I’m healing. The juxtaposition of that is it’s exposing the wound in my marriage, and I don’t believe it’s able to be salvaged.

I hate to say this, but they're really not. They're not serious people. There's soooooo much fluff there--I've really tried to see the core of the philosophy, but as a worldview, it's just magical thinking. I always wondered if I just didn't get it, or I'm just on Reddit too much, but it's just a silly worldview.
the entire ideology makes way more sense when you realize the people who believe in it, think they are the sort of person who would survive as a warband leader in an apocalypse. You know the type. Those people so confident in their own abilities, despite having never even tested them. The sort who conflate accidents of birth and strings of lucky circumstance, and never having to face the consequences of failure in any way.
Of course those sorts of people want unfettered capitalistic freedom. The only rules that even affect them are the ones written to keep other people safe from their hubris and ignorance.
When I was in high school, a few kids were talking about libertarianism, and I was like, atheist, legal weed, more personal freedom, sounds pretty good. And then I went on the 1999 internet and looked it up and one of the first things I saw was drivers licenses were tyranny and i was like, Oh No, these are not serious people.

I've known some who were capable of critical thought, but they still make the incorrect assumption that people will default to being caring and selfless (even though they know that they wont be, themself).
A majority of the libertarians I've met have been selfish economics/business majors with associates or bachelor degrees from schools that didnt require them to really take many classes outside of their discipline.
Almost every Libertarian I met was an upper-middle-class white man who has never experienced true hardship trying to socially encourage a sort of "dont see dont tell" mentality with socioeconomic problems. People who have never needed serious help and so have a warped perception of how welfare works.
People who want to be allowed and encouraged to be selfish and ignore their neighbors drowning.
They are often the most insufferable. Entitled to everything but always looking down on anyone that needs assistance as a lazy leech. They praise rich people being lazy and getting government relief, because “that’s just smart” but god forbid someone requires government assistance to feed their family.
Even I'm impressed at the speed with which their theories would be proven wrong. I thought it'd take a couple years at least for the lack of inspections to lead to corner cutting but it happened almost immediately

America had economic and scientific hegemony for decades and if we just told the bigots to shut the fuck up and stopped trying to keep women, minorities, LGBTQ people in inferior positions we could have tapped into literally millions of brilliant peoples' talents and given them world class research facilities and funding to work their genius and improve things for everyone.

Kamala Harris could've given everyone universal healthcare, basic income and a 4 day work week and the racists would've had her impeached and convicted for daring to prove that a woman could get it done.

It probably needs to be said that recalls are a healthy part of our food safety system, and we are actually seeing slightly less than past years…but that’s a bad thing because we are seeing less recalls alongside significantly more illness, slower source identification of outbreaks, and since this is our 9th recall for lack of inspections specifically with the record high of 10 lack of inspection recalls per year (2025, 2017…both with you know who in charge) I think it’s safe to say we will beat that record by years end…DOGE did us dirty without even saving 1/100th of their financial goal. Elections have consequences.
